Stearman: This is just the start
Monday 4th May 2009, 12:15PM BST.
Wolves matchwinner Richard Stearman believes winning the Championship is only the start of the good times for the club.
Stearman marked his first start since February 14 by scoring his first goal for the club in the 1-0 win against Doncaster yesterday as the city celebrated winning the Championship.
“I think the club has been on the verge of something good for a couple of years now,” said the defender.
“The chairman has added a few players – myself included – and we’re probably in the middle of something good.
“Next season we’ll see what this team is about.”
Stearman believes Wolves already have the nucleus of a team to establish the club in the Premier League.
“Very much so. I think it’s been stated previously that the nucleus of the squad is here,” he said.
“There will be some additions and some players let go – but that’s just what happens in football.”
Comeback defender George Elokobi said he felt like he was making his debut after a shock appearance as substitute after over eight months out with cruciate knee ligament damage.
“It was incredible,” said the left-back, who was given a rapturous reception by the sell-out crowd.
