Morgan: We will not be soft touch
Monday 4th May 2009, 11:31AM BST.
Owner Steve Morgan has warned the Premier League his Wolves will not be on an autograph-hunt when they step back into the big time next season.
The Molineux chairman and club owner chose his team’s jubilant farewell to a title-winning campaign to repeat his pledge to lead a much more challenging Wolves squad into one of world football’s most demanding leagues in August.
The 1-0 victory over Doncaster brought down the curtain on a remarkable campaign which has seen Wolves win the title by seven points from neighbours Birmingham, who joined them in the automatic promotion spots after yesterday’s Championship finale.

It is Wolves’ second bite at the Premier League cherry, six years after their play-off final triumph was followed by an under-investment which saw the team relegated the following season.
But Morgan is determined to banish any notion of his club going into the Premier League as second-class citizens, and in his keynote address to the Molineux fans in yesterday’s programme he re-affirmed his commitment to establishing the club in the top flight.
“Preparations have alre-ady begun for life on and off the field next season because we know how tough it can be in probably the most competitive league in the world,” wrote Morgan.
“But we are not going there simply for the ride or to enjoy the scenery. We are not there as tourists, happy enough to be rubbing shoulders with the great and the good.
“Wolves is a club that has the potential to once again establish itself as a key player in the unforgiving world of top-flight football – we have done it before and we will do it again.”
Wolves’ return to the big stage coincided with Charlton, Southampton and Norwich – all recent Premier League clubs – being relegated to League One in a reminder of the dangers of financial over-stretching.
But with a ring-fenced transfer kitty still holding around £25m supplementing the multi-millions from their share of the Premier League media deal, Wolves will not be short of funds.

Hope he keeps his promise and hope Mick gets some decent players in, at least a couple above the average because the present squad needs supplementing.

The McCarthy, Moxey, Morgan trianglehave done brilliantly thus far. From half a squad (thanks to Twaddle) to champions in three seasons. And already theu’re planning and there is cash and a solid squad if not one that would thrive in the big time. Youngsters are coming through, the ‘gates’ are sure to go up and I predict that a lot of premier teams will get a very bloody nose when they come to Molineux. We have real pace in the squad, young legs and true hunger for the big time.
The three M’s need to get power in the midfield, someone else who’ll get 15 goals apart from Blake (who will struggle unless he gets good service) and a defenders who know the premiership and who don’t make mistakes.
Dave Jones’s team were very mistake prone, light weight in midfield and short of their best players for most of the season. Murray, lescott and Miller) – and we bought badly.
So to the future. Thank you three M’s for making it happen.

I was impressed by Mick McCarthy’s dignity yesterday, especially how he made sure Terry Connor shared the limelight. They both must know they have got a lot on this summer if we are to have any chance of surviving in the Premier. When things start to go wrong next season ,as they are bound to,I hope the criticism on here will be constuctive and not abusive.

A big thank you to Mr Morgan for achieving the dream,Obviously the real work will start now. What we dont want is any more Golden TIT signings but players who will be proud to wear the golden black in the premiership.I am sure that Steve Jez and Mick are aware of the huge task that faces them but i for one am confident that Mr Morgan has the awareness to take WWFC on to greater things.Roll non August.

The celebrations can continue for a few weeks more and then it will be down to the serious business of trying to get the players in Mick & co want.
Mancienne has been apparently been offered a 4 year contract by Chelsea according to rumours but will he get into their team? As Mick is looking for season-long loans, Mancienne would fit that very well.
Another defender of Prem class is needed plus 2 midfielders, 1 being a leader, the other a goalscorer and finally another striker preferably a big, busking type who can put himself around and worry defenders.
IMHO if we can get those type of players Wolves WILL survive and we could finish half way up the Prem table.
Anyway, well done all at the Mol for a great season and lets make this only the beginning – WOLVES ARE BACK and hopefully here to stay!

Agree with number 5 about Mancienne we will not get him long term but for season on loan ,maybe!
We can talk about who think we could or should get but its down to the three M’s to show us how much they want it!
What a great day yesterday was to cap off a great three week’s and a great season.
On neagtive point shame to see the price inceases are so high for season tickets im of the beleif that football is vastly over priced and prices need to come down.

As much as I dont like Hoddle – I think that quite a few fans have been “taken in” by what happened with him and players leaving etc
It was the club who chose to “off load” the higher earning players and Moxey was part of the culling mentality – as it was announced by the club in match day programmes etc (Players wages were cut and staff etc etc – Moxey was not affected at all hmmm – If anyone didnt like it they were sold or offloaded)
Hoddle chose to “jump ship” because he realised that he was not going to be given any funds by SJH and Moxey for the next season
(Imv Moxey should have let Hoddle go at the end of that season – and not waited until the start of the next)
SJH and Moxey took a massive massive gamble that could have resulted in Wolves being relegated – luckily though MM was appointed and he managed to bring in players on a shoe string – Thanks to MM and his staff we not only managed to survive but made the play offs that season
Its great to be promoted but I hope that Moxey can manage to “punch above his weight” when it comes to attracting Prem Proven Players – I cant recollect which former Wolves player said this recently but he feels the same and the jury is still out on Moxey being capable of doing this – I just hope we dont get the usual BS from him
PS Hyppia has agreed to go abroad – so that’s one off the list!
Over the moon about being promoted BUT hope we dont just talk a good fight for next season

Well Hyppia has gone to Germany so thats the end of one tabloid tale, till the next one!!

I see Sam Hyppia has signed for Bayer Leverkusen.
So much for Mr Morgans Liverpool ties eh!

Hypia has already signed up with a club in Germany, I forget which one- sounds like Manciene will sign a new contract at Chelsea? with the assumption they are tying down one of the best young defenders in the country- whilst being prepared to let him back out on loan for a season to continue his ‘education’.
He seemed to enjoy himself with us- I think he would rather come back to a club he is familiar with, and treated him well, the fans loved him also of course- sounds like a good move all round if we can get him for the season. Fingers crossed, because with the likes of him in our squad, things will already be looking much greater. I would love to see them go in for Ledley and McCormack now Cardiff have blown it- what a calamity that was. With those three I think we would be close to half wait in our recruitment, with another three or four of the same or better quality- as in a couple of experienced pro’s at Premiership level- this would not include Nicky Butt in my book; talk of Damien Duff also send a shiver down my spine, he must be on seventy grand a week at Newcastle and look what he has done there- I’m sure he will have a better time of it jogging up and down Championship flanks next season.
As for Big George- he’s return on the last day was also like unveiling a new five million pound defensive powerhouse anyway- then there is Matt Murray on his way back- it’s looking good folks.

Price increase was inevitable after the last 3 seasons freeze. Early Bird offer has been a wonderful scheme, long may it continue!

Among all the celebrations, praising Steve Morgan, Mick McCarthy and the players, let’s not forget Sir Jack. We all tend to forget that it was he that saved the club from extinction and it was also he that wouldn’t sell the club to anyone, (he wrote off our debts at his own expense)he waited for the right man to take over. Forget our last Premier league campaign when there wasn’t enough money and just remember where we would be now without Sir Jack Heywood. I for one will raise a glass to you tonight Sir Jack.

So MM has finally got his Barnsley…Sunderland…Ireland…er Wolves team promoted to the Premier League. Congratulations! Here’s a sneak preview of his team selection for next season:
Hennessey, Keogh, Ward, Foley, Keogh, Ward, Elokobi, Kightly, Keogh, Ward, Ebanks-Blake. Subs – Keogh, Ward, Keogh, Ward, Jarvis.
Well, you have to give some other players a chance, don’t you? I just hope his new signings like warming the bench and watching his favourite sons chasing their tails for 90 minutes…

Moxey on Radio WM yesterday: “It’ll be more difficult than attracting players for the Championship – but we’ll be more agressive this time” What does that mean???
So Moxey is only good at “soft targets”? I just hope he can manage to bring in some decent Prem Proven Players NOT Option F, G or H on MM’s wanted list

shame about sami hyypia, we need a world class defence, to stand any chance of halting rooney, ronaldo, drogba, etal, berra might lead but it takes times to absorb the punishing lessons of the prem…we need one person who knows what to expect and to lead the others…midfield is light, danny murphy maybe..andy johnson perhaps…take a chance on m owen, one season. the swans have a few useful players we cld nick. bailey from charlton…

no13 Notts Wolves. You are right Sir Jack deserves los of praise, especially for the £10 deal which ensured we have had the funds to buy players.BUT ,and I have read similar comments from others,Sir Jack did NOT save Wolves from extinction. The credit for that should go to the then leader of Wolverhampton Council, Jack Bird. He was a Wolves fan,and despite some opposition, he drove through arrangements for the Council to buy Molineux.Without Molineux we would truly have been in touble. We were already on our way back ,having won two promotions, before Sir Jack bought the club.

Go on holiday now Mick while the Prem. season is still on and the play-offs are still to happen so you can be at home when they all finish to nab the best players.

I think the Moxey bashers are missing the point. You can throw all the money around in the world. But are top prem players going to want to come to the club that is favourite to go down? Answer NO, would you?
Think of it like that and you will see why it is difficult to attract players.
We cant help our status in this league can we.
If we buy well and play our usual cagey game and settle for option e,f and g, then that is waht we have to do. IT wont be for lack of trying.
We will see, Moxey has taken risks in the past but he is always calculated and has good reason for the risks. TRUST HIM, he always gets the man the manager want, look at Frankowski. That was due to fan pressure and look where that mug got us.
Look at Iwelumo. Slgagged off before he kicked a ball, became a hero after 2 or 3 month.s

We don’t need a squad to take on man u, Scousers and chelsea. We need a squad that will get points from teams in the bottom half of the table. We will probably never be competitive in terms of the top four but given time I’m sure we could be like Everton or Villa – or even west Ham.
No open top bus because of the council again. What a load of spoilsports these people are. You really must get rid of them next election. they clearly hate the Wolves even though the club must bring a fortune into the city.

21 There are other clubs in the “mix” of bookies favs to get relegated – It doesnt seem to stop their clubs CEO’s from bringing in players like James Beattie etc does it?
Moxey has had more failures than successes at Wolves – Its well noted in our history – you only have to look at his manager appointment failures to success ratios to see that – so there’s no real valid argument there
I cant recollect which ex Wolves player said this recently BUT there has been mention that even ex pro’s for the club cant see Moxey coping with bringing in better than average Prem Proven Players – NOT Ronaldo or Drogba etc – just better than Average Prem Proven Players – and after listening to Moxey talk on Radio WM – I for one get the feeling that we better prepare ourselves for a diary of players we “missed” out on – who will probably end up going to Stoke or similar
On a contract for one Prem season with similar money and bonuses WHY would a player with experience choose Blues, Stoke or Another similar bookies favs to go down – Please explain??? I put it down to a clear lack of abillity to bring in better quality – Out of his league??? As a former Wolve pro has already said – the jury’s still out – I hope Moxey proves everyone wrong but taking a look at the start we made – Hyppia gone – Liverpool connection probably got us an interview – and nothing more – and next we are linked with Lee Naylor??? Boy Oh Boy!
PS* Never knocked Big Chris – Always give a player a chance to shine or not – so that example is clutching at straws my friend!!!
So glad we made it – Now c’mon Moxey pull your finger out – No excuses We’ve heard them all before!!!
