Comic Jim in theatre line-up

Thursday 30th April 2009, 8:23PM BST.

jimdavidsonControversial comic Jim Davidson is among the famous names lined up to appear at Lichfield’s Garrick theatre during its new season.

Davidson will bring his On the Offensive tour to Lichfield in November.

The star is one of several celebs due to take to the stage in the coming months, with singer Mica Paris, entertainer Des O’Connor, and saxophonist Curtis Stigers also on board.

Adrian Jackson, artistic director, said the line-up was another sign of the Garrick’s growing reputation.

The Lichfield Garrick Rep Company gained acclaim for its production of Edward Albee’s classic play Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? last Autumn, starring Matthew Kelly. It even caught the attention of theatre bosses in London who snapped it up for a West End run.

Mr Jackson said: “The recent transfer of the Garrick Rep’s production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? has well and truly put the Lichfield Garrick on the map. This season we will welcome the legendary Des O’Connor, Bernie Nolan, Simon Weston, Matt Monroe Jr and many more.”

The season gets under way on June 9 with a performance of the Vagina Monologues. Tickets go on sale at 10am tomorrow. Call the box office on 01543 412121.
