Academy assistant joins Derby

Wolves academy assistant manager John Perkins has joined Derby.
The 59-year-old, who has been at Molineux for nine years, has gone to the Rams in a similar capacity and has already been unveiled.
He becomes one of three new backroom appointments by Derby boss Nigel Clough in as many days, joining former Rams players Michael Forsyth and Darren Wassall.
Perkins said: “I’ve been here for nine years and I’ve had a great time. Wolves have great potential in every department to do really well.
“We’ve just signed a record seven young professionals from the academy. I’ve been proud to have been involved in that and being involved in the development of players in our first team squad such as Wayne Hennessey, Carl Ikeme and Mark Little.
“But this is a great challenge to be part of the staff with Nigel Clough and what he’s building at Derby.
“I’m so pleased this has been handled so professionally by the chief executives of both clubs. I wish Wolves and all the staff there all the best.”
The Leicestershire-based youth supremo knows the East Midlands well, having worked for Nottingham Forest for nine years before his arrival at Wolves.
Perkins knew Clough from his time at Forest, having worked under his dad Brian for six and a half years at the City Ground.
Clough said: “John is a top-class operator whose knowledge of youth football in the Midlands is unrivalled.
“He brings with him vast experience and expertise, but also a passion for the game and an enthusiasm for finding and developing talented young players.
“It is a fantastic addition to the club.”
Perkins, who holds the UEFA A Licence coaching award, has helped 30 players into League football at Wolves and Forest.
These include current first team squad members Hennessey, Ikeme, Lewis Gobern, Little, Stephen Gleeson and Daniel Jones of more than 20 in his time at Molineux.
