Horse in canal drama

Wednesday 29th April 2009, 11:30AM BST.

Firefighters had to winch a horse after it fell into a Black Country canal – while a crew had to rescue a foal from a ditch in Wolverhampton.

Six firemen wearing life-jackets, went into the water off Bannister Road in Wednesbury and used a rope and sling to help the animal out.

Crews from Tipton, Bilston and Perry Barr were called at 1.10pm, yesterday.

The horse was one of three left untethered in a field.

Crews from Wolverhampton were called to Barnhurst Lane, Pendeford, to release a horse just before 5pm yesterday.
