Baggies wait on winger’s decision

Wednesday 29th April 2009, 11:30AM BST.

menseguezAlbion boss Tony Mowbray today admitted that Juan Carlos Menseguez could have the final say on whether the Baggies make his loan move permanent this summer.

The Hawthorns chief reckons the power could be out of Albion’s hands even if they pursue their interest in the Argentinian, who bag-ged his first goal for the club on Saturday.

Menseguez joined on loan in January from Buenos Aires club San Lorenzo but Albion might try to sign the 25-year-old on a permanent deal if he continues to impress.

But Mowbray admits the player will hold the key to the move – and the division Albion find themselves in could dictate his decision.

Mowbray said: “I and the club haven’t had that conversation with him or his advisors yet.

“But the perception is that he’s a very big player in the Argentinian leagues and it will probably come down to the individual and the club.

“He’s their player. When you deal with South American clubs it’s usually via agents that you have to make the breakthrough.”

Menseguez has found his first team opportunities limited since his winter arrival in the West Midlands but he made ascorinh appearance in the 3-0 win over Sunderland.

Mowbray said: “He’s a talented individual and a nice lad and we will try to give him more game time to see what he can do.

“He’s grown on us all. He has taken time to adapt because he’s not a huge physical presence who comes steaming onto the training ground and makes you go ‘wow’.

“He’s slight, but if you watch him in training he’s settled, confident in his surroundings and very difficult to dislodge from the ball .

“We need to give him more game time to assess what our thoughts would be regarding his future.”

    BIG BIG clue here Tone.
By your own words – “the perception is that he’s a big player in the Argentinian leagues” and “he’s a talented individual” and “confident” and “difficult to dislodge from the ball”.
What more do you guys want?
You spent 3 million on Luke Moore.
Go and get this guy signed up NOW.
There has been too much sitting back and waiting in transfer dealings in the past and this guy looks good.
Come on Albion. Be more pro active and show your ambition!!!

Looked very bright on Saturday. Obviously he and JP(the Purse) will want to know what league he will play in next season. But to be fair I would imagine he has been bought across as one for the future. If he likes it in England then I think he would stay. One things for sure, he needs to be involved at the lane on Saturday.
Whether we stay up or not lets get behind the lads for this final push and see if we can’t get some confidence to bring back in pre season.

Were you at the game? I doubt it, if you saw this lad’s cameo performance and know anything about football it’s easy for even the most shortsighted observer to see that he has a lot to his game. He’s sharp, takes up good positions, has strength and a low centre of gravity making him difficult to knock off the ball, showed a willingness to tackle back and obviously knows how to take a chance. For me there are only two questions. Will he play like this game in and game out, and can we persuade him to stay?
I wonder if 5 PEACE OUT is actually a frustrated MICK OUT merchant and 6 Tom the Baggie is really Tom the Dingle. If they’re not and really are Albion fans, God help us.

re: #7 sorry to disapoint you my friend realist baggie here , as for your comment “can we pursuade him to stay” the words tea and china spring to mind, you see as i’ve said before these yo-yo seasons are wearing a bit thin it’s becoming a standing joke ,we’ve had in recent years 2 good managers and tony mowbray of which i’m certain will be joining the ranks of the unemployed perhaps he’ll consider the circus his ideas will bring the house down with laughter cus lets face it he’s done that to every other football fan around with his NO idea about the game.

    8 Tom.
I’ll have to take your word for it but it still leaves me wondering how long you’ve supported the club. As someone (I may be wrong but I think it was Warren) pointed out the other day, supporters that remember players like Neil Parsley, Stacey North and Darren Bradley will realise how far we’ve come and these are nowhere near the worse (Damien De Freitas anyone?)
Some people need to take a reality check. Tony Mowbray has done a good job on limited resources (compared to people he was up against.) And the Jeremy Peace should spend more brigade always fail to mention where the money should come from, apart from some vague theories, ‘take a gamble etc’ perhaps put the ground on lucky number 7 in the 4.30 at Wincanton.
I guess you are referring to Robson as a good manager, he’s still available, do you really want him back? The Great Escape was achieved after he took us to the bottom and we finished two places lower than when he took over. When he left we were floundering in no man’s land in the CCC.

Peace Out…. Look at Southampton, look at stockport, Leeds etc. he may not break the bank every season, but how much has Mowbray spent? Is it Peace’s fault that he spent it unwisely? The Money was there. We are a stable club, in the current climate thats whats important just now. As for Mowbray being unemployed, Ha ha, bet you werent saying that last season were you?? Get a grip fellas!! Anyways it aint over just yet!!
