Young sets sights on World Cup squad

Villa’s newly-crowned PFA Young Player of the Year Ashley Young aims to expand his blossoming reputation even further by going to the World Cup.
England coach Fabio Capello was in the stands to witness Young net the opener in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bolton.
The Italian was then a guest of the PFA the following day when the 23-year-old fought off competition from Villa team-mate Gabby Agbonlahor, among others, to win the coveted award.
Young has already made four substitute appearances for his country and is determined to board the plane to South Africa for next year’s World Cup after being left out of the last two squads.
The wide man said: “Of course, the World Cup is the aim for a lot of players. I always want to do well for my country and fingers crossed I’ll be able to get back into the England squad and add to my caps.
“(Villa boss) Martin O’Neill has got me in the England team and has always been there to help me.”
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs won the Player of the Year award and Young admitted it would be a dream to emulate his fellow midfielder’s achievements in the game.
He said: “Ryan’s been brilliant and so consistent every season. He’s a man I admire.
“You look at his track record and achievements and, for someone my age that wants to emulate him, he is a great role model.”

If he is going to make the England squad, he is gonna have to get rid of the selfish streak that has crept into his game.
Too often now he goes for goal without looking for other options, result, frustration by his team mates.
