These tasty treats look good enough to eat, but try tucking in and you may just get the needle.

Because instead of cooking up a storm in the kitchen, mother-of-three Jacky Edwards creates these culinary favourites out of wool.

From plates of cakes and trays of sweets, to tins of baked beans, fresh vegetables and boxes of eggs, Mrs Edwards knits a colourful array of food products, which she sells all around the country.

The 52-year-old, of Sutton Road, Walsall, started knitting when she was just four years old, taught by her mother.

“We used to knit little squares and then just sew them together to make dollies’ dresses with them,” she said.

“They weren’t the best-dressed dollies in the world but I loved doing them.”

As a teenager, Mrs Edwards, originally from Yardley in Birmingham, ventured into clothes making, knitting her own jumpers.

“I then started making toys when my children were young really and it was to fill a bit of time.

“It was always just a hobby but then I started selling them at school fetes and fairs and they always went quite well,” she said. Using patterns from books and adapting them, Mrs Edwards, who works with husband Mark, aged 49, at their company, Sutton Road Tax Services, can now knock-up her knitted food items in around a day.

She has tackled everything from plates of sandwiches and salad, to her favourite, a liquorice allsorts-covered tea cosy.

And the enterprising mother, who has three sons, aged 25, 23 and 16, has even set up her own business, Jacksknits, to sell her wares on the ebay website.
