Boss Mowbray backs Dorrans
Monday 27th April 2009, 12:15PM BST.
Tony Mowbray today tipped Graham Dorrans to be a key figure in the Albion’s future as he hailed the young Scot’s desire to succeed.
The bargain buy got a standing ovation from the Hawthorns crowd for his starring role in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Sunderland.
And Mowbray, who was today waiting for an update on the foot injury that forced Dorrans off early against the Black Cats, paid tribute to the rapid progress of the £150,000 summer signing.
“Graham is a young boy who is desperate to be a footballer,” said Mowbray.
“And it’s down to aspiration, hard work, and ability to listen and respect your coaches and a desire to improve that you get to the level that Graham Dorrans is at now.
“He gives us an assurance and confidence on the ball and a crispness of passing and an ability to do the job he is asked to do.
“I thought he was fantastic on Saturday and it bodes well for our club that we’ve got a young player who can hopefully grow and become a big player for our team.”
Dorrans left The Hawthorns with a protective boot on his right foot after being injured in a tackle. The midfielder is having a precautionary X-ray on the ankle this morning. Mowbray will be hoping for the best as he believes Dorrans challenge was evidence of the team’s commitment.
