Wolves claim Championship title
Saturday 25th April 2009, 4:50PM BST.
Wolves claimed the Championship title with a 1-1 draw against Barnsley at Oakwell.
Jonathan Macken had put the visitors ahead but half-time substiute Kyel Reid equalised to give Mick McCarthy’s men the one point they needed to clinch the title crown.
The Wolves team was cheered on by a travelling army of 6,000 fans including Sir Jack hayward.

Get in! However today was clear evidence that quality needs to come in and certain players simply will not be good enough for the next step. Also does anyone know what happened at the end of the match with McCarthy? It all seemed to kick off quite badly?

I’m so glad that Wolves are not only up, but also managed to clinch the Championship title too, finishing 1st. If they can beat Doncaster next week, that’ll put them on 90 points, which is a hell of an achievement.
I really think Wolves have a good chance of staying up this time around. Dave Jones failed, partly because he blew a lot of money on several unknown/untested players. I believe Mick McCarthy will buy a lot more wisely, opting for experience (players that are not too old, of course).
Wolves definitely need a couple of experienced defenders, a leader in midfield (e.g. Nicky Butt, if Newcastle get relegated) and a proven striker (I have my doubts about whether Marlon Harewood is the answer for us in the Prem). It would be wonderful to lure Robbie Keane back to Molineux, but I don’t see that happening.
Great season…but it won’t be easy next year. However, Stoke did it (pretty much), so why can’t we?

No congratulations to the idiots who invaded the pitch at the Wolves goal and final whistle.
You totally spoiled the majorities opportunity to have the players come out to celebrate – and also ruined the day for youngsters who would like to have experienced that.
The referee could have abandoned the game and it is likely that the Club will now suffer some penalty as a result of inconsiderate and stupid actions of the few.Lets hope that next Saturday these people behave like true supporters and STAY OFF THE PITCH

Congratulations to the boys, what a season and leading mostly from the front. But can we also think about Barnsley, I felt sorry for them yesterday, is was their last home game and some of the idolts who ran on their pitch, although I can understand why, spoilt it for them and their players. Perhaps some of those people should be reminded of when we lost the play offs 2nd leg at West Brom and we could not say goodbye / thanks to ours players because of the idolts on the pitch. Rant over!!!!!
