Wolves legend Steve Bull believes the club need to recruit “six or seven” players to stiffen the Molineux promotion-winners this summer.

The club’s record goalscorer is fully behind the club’s plans to supplement the squad who booked their ticket back to the Premier League, with experienced hands who have know-how of the demands awaiting the Championship’s top side.

Bull is lapping up his old club’s success almost as much as if he were still at the heart of it and is as in-demand as ever, filming a “behind the scenes” tour of Molineux this week for Sky TV to be shown later in the summer.

He said: “I think Steve Morgan is going  to invest big time. You don’t come close to buying Liverpool as he did and not have big ideas. I think he has real ambition for the club and he will not want to see Wolves falling away now.

“It took us 19 years to get up last time, but Sir Jack had gone as far as he could.

“This is different. We know Wolves are not going to be competing with the boys at the top, but will be focusing on being good enough to win the battle of the ‘mini-league’ at the bottom.

“I think we will be able to cope with that, provided we make the six or seven signings we now need to help out the young lads.

“That’s what I would want – six or seven solid, experienced men who know all about the top flight and can help our youngsters.

“I think we would have won even more games with a bit more experience in the ranks this year, but we definitely need them now.”

The Wolves legend marks out Kevin Foley as the player who has impressed him most, while praising keeper Wayne Hennessey, defender Jody Craddock and goalscorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Bully said: “It’s a big challenge for Ebanks-Blake now. Is he going to fall by the wayside or is he going to make his mark? I reckon he can score goals at any level. He’s a natural.”

Well said Bully, i can think of 3 players who i reckon could make the step up easily, Blake, Foley and Kightly. The rest im not so sure about to be honest. Hennessey worries me to death and needs to be more aggressive and command his box more. Berra has done ok but hasn’t set the world alight. Craddock is a squad player, i agree with the club keeping him because i’d rather have him come into the side than Collins! Elokobi needed this season to progress ready for the prem so its a tough ask for him next season. For me, our midfield is the weakest link and we need somebody with real quality to come in, not Quashie please! Jarvis is too consistent and injury prone. Up front, i think we need another quality striker but ain’t far off in that department. We must do the complete opposite to Sandwell Town, no unknown foreigners please! Hypia would be a fantastic signing but the wages he commands would probably be too much. Huddlestone would be another great addition as would Sean Davies.

you know when you play tennis or backgarden football or cricket with your useless geek cousin? Any you know how when you do that you play really poorly too?
I think we will be surprised by some of our squad next year. Tis a different game up there

Bully of course is right, but I don’t like all this talk of experienced Premier League players. We don’t want to buy a lot of 30 year olds,on high wages but little re sale value in 2 years time.I hope Mick goes for the lean and hungry type but at a higher level than most of the current squad. This of course is easier said than done. Mick has a good record at buying players to date, but this summer will be a real test of his capabilities to take us to the next level.

Steve Bull’s comments are in some ways correct, we do need additional experience in the side to aid us in the premiership.Maybe we do need ‘six or seven’ to add to the squad, but Steve, you have missed the real problem.

While Mick McCarthy grafted us through the season to promotion, he is in no way a Premiership manager, and should receive a good payout from Mr Morgan for what he achieved.

The first thing we should do is to seek a very experienced and successful premiership manager, and take it from there.

I agree to some extent with Brisvegaswolf

We have a lot of players in the squad who have played international football on more than a few occasions. You don’t get picked for your national side if you are just an average championship player.

It’s a different game in the premier league and I agree with Alex Rae’s comments earlier in the week, he said there are more very average sides in the premier league than people think. I think with a few additions the squad will fair very well thanks to Mick’s young and hungry policy. Players like David Edwards, Chris Berra and David Jones will step up I’m sure of it.
