Wolves break the Crossbar Challenge
Saturday 25th April 2009, 1:55PM BST.
Wolves are celebrating another honour – after making a record number of hits in Sky TV’s Soccer AM Crossbar Challenge.
Four players from the promotion-winning squad – left-footers George Friend, Christophe Berra and Matt Hill, along with reserve keeper Graham Stack – were successful.
In the show, players are challenged to hit the bar from the centre circle and the quartet all achieved the honour.
The previous record was three, achieved by both Northampton and Hereford last season.
Another left-footer, full-back George Elokobi, wasn’t so successful and received plenty of ribbing for his efforts as he steps up his rehabilitation from his cruciate knee ligament injury.
Boss Mick McCarthy said: “It was a good effort by everyone, but not so good for George. He used to play for us – he’ll be back shortly!
“He’s a wonderful human being with a great body and we can’t wait to unleash him on the Premier League.
“But if you’d have seen his attempt at Crossbar Challenge on Thursday you’d think he’s been out for a lot longer than six months – because it was ‘minging’!”
The show was screened earlier today and the cameras were at Wolves’ Compton Park training ground on Thursday to record the event.
The Soccer AM cameras were previously at Compton in 2006-07, when none of McCarthy’s squad hit the bar.
