A mother and her 11-year-old son from the Midlands have completed a walking challenge of 210 miles along the banks of the River Severn for charity.

The marathon charity walk by Helen Lord-Scott, aged 44, and son, Ollie Lord, took 13 days to complete.

A pupil at The Knoll School in Kidderminster, Ollie even gave up two weeks of his Easter holiday for the challenge.

Helen, of Kidderminster, had already completed several charity walks including ones in the Canadian Rockies and to Mount Everest base camp, raising money on each occasion for Acorns Children’s Hospice. But while Ollie managed not to get any blisters from the walk, Helen was not so lucky.

She said: “I had a couple of blisters but fortunately they were not bad enough to stop me continuing the walk.

“We want from Plynlimon, the source of the Severn in Mid-Wales and finished at Severn Beach, near Bristol.

Helen said: “We will be sharing the funds between Acorns and the Midlands Air Ambulance and so far have raised about £1,050.” The duo set off on April 6 and completed their trip last Saturday.
