Birmingham 1 Preston 2 – verdict

Saturday 25th April 2009, 7:00PM BST.

Alex McLeishThe race for the second and last promotion place will go to the last day after Birmingham blundered at St Andrew’s.

Blues had led through Keith Fahey’s 56th minute header, before all hell broke loose three minutes later.

A wild melee saw Lee Bowyer for the home side and Lee Williamson for the visitors both sent off.

Seven minutes later Preston were level, Paul McKenna with the equaliser from long range.

Then St Andrew’s was stunned with a minute to go, when Ross Wallace limbered up and fired a stunning free-kick into the back of the net.

Pleasure was not without pain though, the winger’s over exhuberent celebrations led to a red card for a second booking.

But Blues’ will care only about the result, with Sheffield United breathing down their necks a point and place behind them in third going into the last round of fixtures next Sunday.

The Blades go to Crystal Palace in game 46, while Alex McLeish’s side go to Reading – who could still grab second if they won both their remaining games and United were beaten.

Maybe, just maybe you blouse’s might start to realise you can’t just bully your way out of this league- you do have to try and play a little bit of football ( also helps to sell season tickets)! You’re not going up auotomatically are you? Maybe it’s time to think about your club structure before the admininstrators do!!!!!! Ne’er mind…

Come on Blues. I’m a Wolves fan and really want you to join us in the Prem next season for more great derby’s. You do seem to be making it as difficult as possible though. As for Bowyer – what a PRAT!!!

You HAVE blwn it Blue Noses big time but like on the bright side, there is a 25% chance you could be going to Wembley.
Then someone else can rip you lot off to watch a game.
Keep right on to the end of the coca cola championship next season boys.
    Thanks for the memories

My prediction: Blouse to get knocked out in the semi’s of the play offs, your ageing over paid squad to milk the club dry with the rest of their contracts and then disappear into the mire of the championship goodbye pretenders to the throne Reading & Sheff Utd to join us in the premiership

How unlucky can you get? Two wonder goals – really can’t legislate for that.

Oh – hold on, you can. You can try not to scrape through with 1-0 wins all of the time.

It will be a sad day for the Prem if Blues don’t make it though. The average attendance this season would be enough to rank Blues in the top 5 supported sides.

Oh – hold on. Despite being in the top 3 for most of the season and kids for quid offers, Blues are only the 10th best supported side in the Chapionship – more than 10,000 below the average of one of the other sides relegated last season (Derby) and it would only have beaten Wigan in the prem. BTW – you’d only have been third in League One!

Small side – can’t believe that I’ll be cheering on Reading next week (although I’d be happy to see Sheff U being the biggest beneficiaries)

Nevermind that, did you see Trevor Francis’s face after the match PRICELESS

He was the one who said that he fully expects Birmingham City to go on and win the league and he really worried about wolves making it. Well Trevor admit it your muppet, you were an average player, an awful manager and a diabolical pundit. Steve Bull held a dignified silence when Francis was going about how we were going to struggle. ha ha ha ha, stupid little BLOSER!

Oh by the way, how funny was it to see a lap of honour to a near empty ground, or was it the fans doing a fancy dress and turning up as seats!

It is lovely being in work today, sitting in an office looking at forlorn bloser fans moaning ha ha! Reading gonna get ya!

I send you all a thank you for making this season the sweetest!

    HAPPY WOLVES FAN

2 we realy don’t want them up there with us.

We don’t want to give them their cup final next season and we could do without the injuries. Let them and Sandwell town kick lumps out of each other.

What the blue noses forget is that every team that we have played since before Christmas has raised their game because we’ve been the team at the top and a big scalp, they are no different to the rest.

And yes No.9 the look on Trevor Francis’s face after the match was PRICELESS

Come on you Wolves supporters where’s you compassion for your fellow Midlanders?
You must have some sympathy !
The have never won anything in their lives and probably never will.
Could you support a team without any history?
    No.
Some come on lads, its bad enough living in Brum without you lot gloating over there in the Golden Palace.
Show some compassion, even if the Brady Bunch screwed you to watch the match at their shack.
Come to think of it Brady makes Jez look pretty.
I do suspect Blues will sneak in through the back door though with a draw on Sunday and Sheff Utd will lose.

Big Eck begging Blouses to buy tickets for Saturday to make it a sell out-PATHETIC SMALL HEATH. Disgraceful you left at end with no respect to YOUR players. We missed out on play-offs last year on GD and still stayed for lap of honor-worst club and supporters in League. I hope ypu don’t go up and do a Charlton next year

12…..compassion for Birmingham ended with that tackle on Iwelumo. They do not deserve to go up, they have been incredibly lucky with their goals and thay have never been convincing. I think Reading will go up – they are on fire now, with Sheff utd.

Isn’t it strange that after all the predictions we only ever needed 84 points to get up… West Brom got up on 61 last year.

I hope we win on sat for the supporters (Don’t get the ground closed by running on the pitch lads) and for the fact that this would mean 90 points which, bearing the quality of teams this year, is an excellent outcome.
