Top plastic surgeon suspended
Friday 24th April 2009, 11:30AM BST.
A top plastic surgeon has been suspended from his job at a Black Country Hospital.
The new upset comes just weeks after he was cleared of indecently assaulting patients during medical examinations.
Aivar Bracka, speaking at his home, said: “It is just a temporary internal matter. I do not wish to comment at the moment.”
Mr Bracka was found not guilty of six counts of indecent assault on five patients, including teenagers, at the former Wordsley Hospital during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
The world-renowned surgeon was cleared following his five-week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in February.
Mr Bracka was then allowed to return to work at Russells Hall Hospital on March 6 with all restrictions lifted.
But today health chiefs confirmed the 59-year-old had been suspended pending an investigation.
Chief executive of the Dudley Group of Hospitals, Paul Farenden, said: “We can confirm that Mr Bracka is currently excluded from duty.
“This exclusion is not related to his clinical competence.”
Hospital managers declined to say exactly when or why the surgeon had been suspended or how long the investigation would take. Mr Bracka, of Balmoral Road, Wordsley, featured in the television documentary Trust Me, I’m a Doctor in the late 90s.
