Laursen admits career could be over

Friday 24th April 2009, 11:33AM BST.

laursen.jpegVilla skipper Martin Laursen has admitted for the first time he could be forced to hang up his boots.

The 31-year-old defender, sidelined since January with a knee injury, has delayed a decision on his future until next week but conceded he may have to retire.

He said: “My future will be decided by the end of next week. It is strange on so many levels, but this is it.

“If it turns out that I have to stop playing, then I will be able to look back on a long career that I can be happy about.

“I would love to play football since it has been going well for Villa, and  of course I want to continue.”

This is a real sad day when Martin Laursen hangs up his boots. He has been a great player for Villa and his defending and goalscoring has been sadly missed.

1 Rennie..I agree with you totally, but I must add that for the good of the club and his own health, he should now quit.
There are a few others too that are not as good as Martin that should go, I can only hope and pray that MON replaces them with better players, or I fear we are always going to be also rans.
