Rugeley charter marks 750th year
Thursday 23rd April 2009, 9:59AM BST.
Rugeley’s annual Charter Fair will be the biggest yet to mark the 750th anniversary of the granting of the town’s charter.
The town Council is organising the event on June 6 with all the money raised going to local charities.
Town clerk Maureen Campbell urged local organisations and individuals to get involved.
Anyone who wants to help can contact her on 01889 574074.
There will be a 300 strong choir and samba band from local schools, while the town centre will be filled with market stalls.
The theme of the parade, which will feature floats and walking parties, will be ‘Rugeley through the Ages.’
The fair will end with a firework display.
On Sunday June 7 there will also be a 750th anniversary service in St Augustine’s Church at 4pm.
A Charter Fair barn dance and hog roast is also planned for June 27.
