O’Neill backs a glut from strike trio
Thursday 23rd April 2009, 11:11AM BST.
Villa boss Martin O’Neill has predicted a glut of goals from his strike trio – as long as they can steer clear of injury.
O’Neill has rarely been afforded the luxury of being able to call upon Gabby Agbonlahor, John Carew and Emile Heskey this term.
But he could for Saturday’s trip to Bolton.
Agbonlahor is back in training after recovering from a hamstring strain, but he could struggle to displace Carew and Heskey – who have had respective back and Achilles problems this term – after they impressed in last weekend’s draw with West Ham.
Still, O’Neill is excited by the prospect of being able to call on all three and has refused to rule out unleashing the trio all at once.
He said: “If they stay fit, we look as if we have a potent threat for not only the back end of this season but the next one too.
“With James Milner and Ashley Young providing for them, there’s no reason why they can’t score a lot of goals.
“All three will definitely pose problems in whichever order we play them – including all three of them at the same time.”
“Emile did great (last Saturday) but got tired after missing the last couple of weeks, John is very strong at this moment and with Gabby coming back these three I think can only add to their tally.”
