McFly Pizza Delivery Man Vijay KumarA pizza delivery man from Wolverhampton who appeared on stage with pop giants McFly admits he didn’t even recognise his famous customers.

Grandad Vijay Kumar spoke about his four minutes of fame in front of thousands of screaming fans – but admitted he didn’t even recognise his famous customers.

He was called on to stage at the city’s Civic Hall on Tuesday night, after McFly guitarist Dougie Poynter ordered a pizza from Domino’s in Newbridge.

The band asked the audience to keep quiet as the order was being made so the takeaway staff would not suspect the identity of their VIP customers.

Unbeknown to the restaurant, the staff were being timed by the band who plan to pull the same stunt at each gig on their new tour, which was launched in Wolverhampton.

Vijay, from Goldthorn Park, was ushered into the building by stage door security staff on his arrival.

The 47-year-old said: “To me, it was just another pizza delivery.

“I didn’t suspect anything until the bouncer said ‘You’re going to be famous’. A song had just finished and it was dark, then the lights went up and they called me on to the stage. I was shocked.

“I like McFly – I’ve heard my kids talk about them – but I prefer Michael Jackson and, to be honest, I didn’t recognise them. I was too stunned by what was going on.”

Vijay’s night was complete when Dougie asked his name and asked the crowd to give him a cheer when he got on stage with the band’s Texan barbecue pizza.

But they did better than that and started chanting  “Vi-jay! Vi-jay!”
