Ebanks-Blake backing for Premier stay

Monday 20th April 2009, 11:38AM BST.

qpr31Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has set his heart on being part of a Molineux team in the Premier League for life.

The Championship hot-shot scored the £60million goal against QPR that took Mick McCarthy’s side back to the top flight for the first time in five years.

Now the 25-goal top scorer has immediately set his sights on ensuring the club stay there this time, after their ill-fated 12-month spell in 2003/04.

He said: “The aim is to stay there – we don’t want to come straight back down. We want to build on what we’ve done and hopefully stay there for many years to come.”

Ebanks-Blake backed McCarthy to sign the right type of characters to fit in the dressing room.

He said: “The manager has a right eye for the squad and I’m sure he’ll be in control. That’s his job.

“He’s brought in Nigel Quashie, Marlon Harewood and Kyel Reid and they’ve fitted right in and they’ve helped us and done a job this season.”

“I have the belief that this squad here can play in the Premier League,” he said.“We’re going to stand up tall against them and show what we’re about.

“It’s what you aspire to do when you want to be a professional player at the top level, and that’s all what we’re going to do next season.

“I feel as if we all can play there, but until we’re all in there, I don’t think you can make a judgement on anyone. You’ll get players that aren’t that effective in the Championship but play regularly in the Premier League. That’s just fact.

“It would be nice to have a few additions to help the squad out, but you need a squad as we’ve shown this season to win things and do well and I’m confident we’ll give our all next season. For now, I just want to enjoy it.

“It doesn’t get any better than this. It’s the biggest prize in football and words can’t really describe the feeling we’re all feeling.”
