Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Villa blog: To the Holte and bitter end
Friday 17th April 2009, 9:05AM BST.
Villa blogger Dave Bytheway saw the roar of the Holte End return last weekend and wants more of the same against West Ham.
We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again! Those were the chants ringing around the Holte End on Sunday lunch time.
When at 2-0 and 3-1 down the fans never left the players, continuing to get behind them all game. That is what we are used to. That is what being not just a Villa fan but a football fan is about.
I have no doubt in my mind that if what has happened recently, in the booing and total negativity from the fans, had done so again on Sunday we would have been a lot further behind than two down after 22 minutes.
The fans derserve a lot of credit, with their support we went in 2-1 down at half time after a good goal from John Carew at the North Stand.
Then the second half started and we found ourselves two behind again. But whilst the Everton fans rejoiced, we still sang and tried to get behind the players.
It worked, with James Milner curling a top class free kick around the wall to make it 3-2, then Everton’s former Wolves defender Joelon Lescott foulding Sillyan Petrov in the box, giving Gareth Barry the chance to draw us level, which he did and celebrated in front of the Holte End.
We were not just back in the game, but we were back from the terrible run of form we have been through of late. We played with renewed passion, pride, belief and I thought we would go on to win, but we settled on a 3-3 draw. A great game of football from both teams.
I met up with E & S Online Sports Journalist Craig Birch this week for a pint, and we discussed what would be happening in the summer at Villa Park.
I certainly feel that we need new faces, but not just faces to fill a squad. We need top quality additions this transfer window, to be able to put us in a more equipped position to challenge for the top four in 2009/10.
We spoke about central defenders, two of them needed in my opinion. I would buy Brede Hangeland from Fulham for starters, as well as an accomplished experienced player to slot in alongside.
I think Curtis Davies will come on no end from more experience, so adding faces will only help him. We also need a ‘ball playing’ midfielder, someone who can open up a defence with one pass.
For this, I reckon we need to look at some flair from the continent, which is also where our scouts need to be able to find a natural goalscorer.
I would say we need another five, maybe six quality players this summer. Come August 31 we will know again, if we can put in a challenge.
Now West Ham come to B6 on Saturday and they are a team I always like to watch.
With Gianfranco Zola as manager now they play nice attacking football, so a game similar to that tomorrow is probably on the cards.
With our run in of games starting that day, I predict a strong finish to the season, starting with a 3-1 win.
To all the Wolves fans going to the QPR game this weekend, have a great day, we will see you next year!
In closing, yours truly will be running in the London Marathon on Sunday week! I will be doing this for my chosen charity ‘Anetenal Results and Choices.’
‘ARC’ gives parents information about antenatal testing and supports them and their families, when an abnormality is discovered in their much wanted unborn baby.
I want to raise awareness of my chosen charity, who give the support and advice we missed out on.
They do a magnificent job, helping parents in the same position we were in when our daughter, Abi-Leigh, was born on 5 October 2007, in the end a perfectly healthly happy little girl.
I am hoping to raise a four figure sum for them, so please dig deep, it would be greatly appreciated.
