Time for some net regulation

How come behavioural advertising technology can track that I often Google cosmetic websites and send me targeted advertising about cosmetics but can’t track sick paedophiles looking at nasty child porn and get them banged up? writes Charlie Cashdan.

Could it be perhaps that Google generates lots of extra revenue by monitoring every single search I make on my PC then selling this info to companies but wouldn’t make anything by passing on people’s dodgy search histories to the police?

I just don’t believe that we can’t regulate the internet.  The technology we have is now so advanced, as this new development in targeted advertising proves, that I find it very difficult to accept that it is impossible to regulate and to shut down sites showing horrible nasty sick things involving rape, torture, child porn and methods for violent terrorism.

Clearly it is now possible to track what every single computer searches for so surely that same technology can help us to close down sick filth and catch those who view it?

I do resent the intrusion into my privacy but if this technology could dramatically increase the amount of paedophiles and terrorists caught and brought to justice then I am happy to support it.

If it just makes Google even richer then I resent it.  Almost as much as I just hate the whole photographic street map thing which is totally Orwellian and frankly, quite creepy.

Those cars with the huge black cameras on top which are driving around the country as we speak capturing everything from someone who has been taken ill and is now throwing up in the street to info that could help a burglar/stalker/sicko break into our houses is just plain wrong as far as I’m concerned.

How many violent, possessive men will use this to keep tracks on their ex?  How many stalkers will use it to follow someone’s route to work or see what type of car they drive?

At least CCTV can only be viewed by the police, not every member of the general public!
