Forgotten Wolf Hynek Stichauer is back on the speedway bike and bursting to return to action.

The little-known Czech, a surprise close-season signing by Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten, rode in the club’s first three matches before returning to his homeland for treatment to an injury.

But the 21-year-old is responding to physio and has targeted the Wolves’ trip to Poole next Wednesday for his return to action.

He said: “My problem is getting better. I had a practice on Wednesday and I felt much better on the bike.

“I am going to come to England on Sunday, and after the Monday meeting (also against Poole) I would like to try some practice.

“Then CVS said if that is OK I start at Poole on Wednesday.”

The injury had initially proved difficult to isolate – it was affecting Stichauer’s neck, shoulder, right arm and hand – but was finally diagnosed as a trapped nerve which is now responding to intensive physiotherapy.

Stichauer said: “I have a problem with neck vertebra, a stuck nerve in my neck. My right hand was very weak, I couldn’t feel anything.

“I couldn’t ride for four laps because I didn’t have the strength.”
