Work on bridge is near end

Wednesday 15th April 2009, 10:32AM BST.

A new footbridge at Kidderminster Railway Station is to be opened soon despite being out of action for four months because people claimed the surface was too slippery.

The footbridge was completed at Christmas time but although it met national standards, train operators called for it to have a surface with a better grip.

During the past four months people have had to reach the far side platform by walking out of the station and around to the other side.

Now it is about to become fully-operational four months after it was constructed.

Rachel Blackman, spokesman for Network Rail, said: “The footbridge was built to railway standards, but the train operators London Midland asked for a more adhesive surface. We are rectifying the problem and meanwhile people have had to use the main bridge.”
