Fans set for a Premier party

DERBY V WOLVES 2 GD 13Wolves fans today geared up for a promotion party by eagerly snapping up an extra 1,400 seats at Molineux for Saturday’s game against QPR.

The club reached agreement with Rangers yesterday to move visiting fans from the Steve Bull Stand lower tier to the Jack Harris Stand flank to release the extra tickets to cope with a flood of demand from supporters eager to see a game that could clinch promotion.

Wolves need a win to seal their place in the Premier League and Mick McCarthy’s Championship leaders would be crowned champions if they win and Birmingham and Sheffield United don’t.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “The tickets went like hot cakes. Demand has outstripped supply for this game.”

Around 900 Wolves fans who had already bought tickets for the Jack Harris Stand are being notified of their move to the Steve Bull Stand. They must come to Molineux to exchange their seats.

The extra tickets went on sale at 7.15pm last night and they sold out before lunchtime today to guarantee a sell-out in the home areas and a gate of around 27,000-plus.

Wolves made the switch to get as many of their fans into Molineux as safely possible.

The club also defended their move not to put home and away fans in the Steve Bull Stand lower tier, to admit more Wolves supporters.

“We had a meeting with the police and our own safety team and we couldn’t safely segregate fans,” said Moxey.

“With the configuration of the turnstiles all at one end, it couldn’t be done without more planning.

“We went to the police with this idea to start with but came to the conclusion we couldn’t do it.

“With the timetable involved and the fact it’s a highly charged game and the fact we haven’t done it before, we decided to go with down the tried and tested route.”

* Wolves have also sold out of their entire 5,869 allocation of tickets for the trip to Barnsley on April 25.
