Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Keogh promise for the Premier
Tuesday 14th April 2009, 11:31AM BST.
Striker Andy Keogh insists Wolves won’t rest until they have clinched the Championship title and vowed – “we won’t throw it away now.”
The Irish forward was the two-goal man of the match in a see-saw 3-2 win at Derby, volleying them ahead, then diving to head the winner that put his side within a win of promotion to the Premier League.
Now Mick McCarthy’s Championship leaders are seven points clear of the play-offs and have three games left.
Birmingham and Sheffield United also have three, while Cardiff and Reading have an additional match in hand, but are 10 and 13 points adrift respectively.
Keogh said: “It would be silly to take our foot off the pedal because we want to be promoted, and as champions. We’ve been up there all season and we’re not about to throw anything away.”
Wolves’ victory ensured they took another big stepas Sheffield United, Blues and Reading all drew, while Cardiff beat Burnley.
But Keogh insists the champagne must remain on ice and sensibly continues to toe the party line, by refusing to accept Wolves are promoted until they can’t be caught.
He said: “The results were good for us but we’ve still got a job to do. Until it’s mathematically impossible for us not to be up, there will be no celebrations for us just yet.”
Keogh believes boss Mick McCarthy made inspired substitutions after admitting: “We were knackered.”
He was relieved to see his side emerge victors after trailing 2-1 until 17 minutes from time.
But Wolves’ sixth victory in eight only came when McCarthy made all three permitted changes in a 12-minute spell before the hour.
Despite having an extra day’s rest on their opponents, the two-goal hero reckons Wolves’ players were still suffering from fatigue.
He added: “I think the lads’ legs got tired. The sun was out and it was a typical Bank Holiday Monday – the lads’ energy was really gone and it was hard work.”

fair play keogh lad – i’ve been a big critic, especially at home games but i went to blues away in the cup and you were different class then and went away to derby yesterday and you won us the match.
the subs for once were spot on. was interested in harewood at all to be honest, even when he came on he spent more time appealing to the ref than chasing the ball – but it was a great run and a great ball in for the winner.
3-2. boom. lets be champions too
