Dudley’s Darren McDermott returns to the scene of both his biggest high and biggest disappointment with a message for the boxing world – “nothing can stop me now.”

‘Macca’ will be at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on April 24, competing in the Black Country for the first time since controversially losing to then-British champion Wayne Elcock last June.

He will step into the ring as the English middleweight champion, having taken the title from Steve Bendall in his first fight back at the Birmingham NIA in February.

Now the time has come to exorcise the demons of his last battle at the Civic, in front of the Sky cameras.

There were 1,700 fans on hand that night and ‘The Black Country Bodysnatcher’ wants to recreate that white-hot atmosphere.

He said: “I’m out to prove a point to everyone that I am back, the Civic I class as my home ground, so I need to come and show to my local fans that I am back to my best.

“I want to be tested, this fight will do that, then I am coming for Commonwealth champion Darren Barker and for new British champion Matthew Macklin – I will be a triple champion by next year, that’s my goal.

“There are some great fights coming up for me, starting at the Civic.”
