Spotify is the talk of the internet, a free and legal way to listen to almost any music online, and now ExpressandStar.com has compiled its own ‘Best of The Midlands’ Spotify playlist for you to enjoy.

We’ve put together a massive 30-track compilation for your listening pleasure, although some of the links are – it must be admitted – somewhat tenuous. Think of it as a free Express & Star CD . . . without the CD!

2. Mr Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra: Leader Jeff Lynne originally hailed from Shard End in Birmingham
3. Girls on Film - Duran Duran: Birmingham was the birthplace of the new romantic superstars
4. Inner City Life - Goldie: The jungle and drum and bass performer was born in Walsall
5. Superstar - Jamelia: The Birmingham-born R&B singer has won four MOBO awards
6. Shoulda Woulda Coulda – Beverley Knight: The soul star hails from Wolverhampton
7. Set Me Free – Jaki Graham: Another Midlands soul diva, this time from Birmingham
8. The Size Of A Cow- The Wonder Stuff: The Wonder Stuff were formed in Stourbridge
9. Kill Your Television – Neds Atomic Dustbin: Another band that formed in Stourbridge
10. Def Con One – Pop Will Eat Itself:  Also known as PWEI or the Poppies, they drew members from Birmingham, the Black Country and Coventry
11. She Moves In Her Own Way – The Kooks: Original bassist Max Rafferty was from Morville, near Bridgnorth
12. Either Way – The Twang:  The indie rockers are from Birmingham
13. Come On Eileen – Dexys Midnight Runners: Wolverhampton-born Kevin Rowland’s finest hour
14. Paranoid – Black Sabbath: The Birmingham rockers were at the birth of heavy metal
15. Breaking the Law - Judas Priest: More metal from Midlands maestros Priest
16. Love Ain’t No Stranger – Whitesnake: This song was co-written by Cannock-born guitarist Mel Galley, who was also in Trapeze
17. I Got Your Number -  Hughes Thrall: Fellow Trapeze member Glenn Hughes was also from Cannock and went on to find fame with Deep Purple
18. Please Read the Letter – Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: Led Zeppelin don’t feature on Spotify yet, so here’s their West Bromwich-born frontman in his Grammy Award-winning collaboration with bluegerass singer Alison Krauss
19. Red Red Wine – UB40: The Birmingham reggae band are one of the Midlands’ biggest musical exports
20. It’s A Mystery – Toyah: Singer and actress Toyah Willcox was born in Kings Heath, Birmingham
21. Valerie - Steve Winwood: The  Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith singer was born in Handsworth, Birmingham
22. All The Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople:  Singer Ian Hunter was born in Oswestry, Shropshire
23. See My Baby Jive – Wizzard: Birmingham-born leader Roy Wood was also in The Move and Electric Light Orchestra
24. Nomansland (David’s Song) - DJ Sakin and Friends: This is the Lange remix, masterminded by Shrewsbury-born Lange (aka Stuart Langelaan)
25. Sit Down – James: Singer Tim Booth went to Shrewsbury School before joining the Manchester indie rockers
26. China In Your Hand – T’Pau: Although Liverpool born, singer Carol Decker moved to Shropshire where she met Shrewsbury-born guitarist  Ronnie Rogers
27. Sing - Travis: They may be associated with Scotland, but frontman Fran Healy was born in Stafford
28. I Think We’re Alone Now - Tiffany:  The American pop princess now lives near Cannock
29. Whole Lotta Love - Dread Zeppelin: As we said earlier, there is no Led Zeppelin on Spotify . . . so here’s a reggae version of one of their greatest riffs, courtesy of tribute band Dread Zeppelin
30. Nothing Compares To You – All Angels: The all-girl group includes Melanie Nakhla from Shrewsbury
