Wolves team boss Peter Adams hailed “a good night’s work” as his men fought back from six points down to beat Lakeside at Monmore.

So complete was Wolves’ revival that their winning margin of 11 points comfortably passed the seven-point mark, which grants home teams the maximum three points on offer.

But the Hammers’ early punch certainly worried Adams.

He said: “They’re a quality team. They won here twice last season. You’ve got to get out of the start to be a Lakeside rider, because of their (small and tight) home track.

“So whenever they go away, invariably they’re in the first corners first, as was the case here. But I think to turn a six-point deficit after heat five into an 11-point win was a very good performance against a very good team.”

Unsurprisingly, referee Margaret Vardy’s decision to reinstate the fallen Kauko Nieminen in heat six did not meet with Adams’ approval.

He said: “The guy who fell off fell off all on his own. If a race is stopped, somebody has got to be the cause of the stoppage – and whoever that is has to be excluded.

“But the referee said they were too close to one another going into the corner, in her view, so that’s why she decided to have all four back.

“That was a wrong decision, but you get those. Some days they’ll go for us rather than against us.”
