Birmingham City's Kevin Phillips has a shot on goal

Perth Glory have dismissed claims they are looking to bring Birmingham striker Kevin Phillips to the club.

The Australian club – currently in talks with Wolves over the prospect of a pre-season friendly with the Championship leaders Down Under in July – have been linked with the 35-year-old.

Glory coach Dave Mitchell earlier in the week said his club were interested in KP, a claim which infuriated Blues with the player still under contract.

Now Mitchell has said: “We regret any misunderstanding and can categorically say that Perth has not made any contact with Kevin Phillips.

“Kevin is obviously a wonderful player but he is contracted to Birmingham and we completely respect that fact.”

“We are working to attract the best players we can to our club and certainly that will only be done in accordance with FIFA guidelines.

“We are disappointed about claims otherwise.”
