Keeper Stack back to boost Wolves
Friday 27th March 2009, 11:25AM GMT.
Wolves believe they have left nothing to chance in the promotion run-in after re-signing goalkeeping understudy Graham Stack.
Manager Mick McCarthy, a big admirer of the popular 29-year-old Londoner who made such a big impact behind the scenes on last season’s tour of duty.
He has been recruited on loan from Plymouth, after Sunderland keeper Darren Ward returned north for treatment on a back injury.
Stack’s return will be a move welcomed by McCarthy’s squad, after the former Arsenal goalkeeper made such a positive impact last season.
He was name-checked by Wayne Hennessey as a big influence on his dramatic breakthrough into senior football and his signing follows the arrival of Marlon Harewood at the start of the week.
The deadline for loan deals has now closed, with Wolves now content all the components are in place to give themselves the best possible chance of clinching Premier League football over the remaining six games.
Harewood’s signing was party triggered as a response to rivals Reading’s double swoop last week, which saw forwards Glen Little and Dave Kitson brought back to bolster their squad.
Now Stack’s arrival completes the shuffling of numbers for Wolves and the shotstopper is relishing his return to a promotion-challenging group of players he hopes to help.
He said: “It is a time for cool heads and I have got a fair bit of experience. I’d like to think I can be a good influence around the dressing room – it needs characters to help with team spirit especially in pressure situations.
“It will be great to see the lads again and the banter all starts. I’ll be as focused as anyone else when that happens.
“It’s unfortunate when you’re there with such good keepers but I’d still like to think I played a part in those squads and did my bit.
“You just try and do what you can to help around the place.”

I seem to remember when he did play for us in the Carling Cup, he had an absolute stinker! Hopefully he won’t be required but I don’t expect the transaction has cost us much so it’s worth getting some extra backup. I think Mick is paranoid after Murray broke his shoulder about 2 days before the playoff semi against the Albion.

Well done mick !
Brings some experiance back to help wayne, hope he has the influence like hennesey says he does on him, if he does why not sign him up to be a gk coach IF we get in the prem thats is.
Also i think the loss of bobby mimms (old gk coach) made a big impact on wayne, so surley stack would be a better replacement then who we got now.
Anyway, i feel better knowing stacks on the bench rather than Darren Ward.
HERE we go, next 6 games will be the most important set of games since i can remember.
Also a WIN at blues will see us up im sure. But if we loose then we must bounce back straight away.

1) and 6) He was man of the match against us in the first game of the season. He is not first choice but good experienced back up until the end of the season.

7. Wolves AY I – yeah, probably Blues fans not wanting to waste their money my friend !!! Did you see all the empty seats they had against Norwich ? For a club second in the table it was a shocking dispaly of support and an absolute disgrace.

I’m an Argyle fan and hope Stack is more of an influence in your dressing room than he has been in ours.
He played the first 5 games of the season and was M-O-M in most of them (was player of the month for August)but after we played Norwich and lost 1-3 he apparently made some disparaging comments about the club “pub team etc” and was dropped. He was loaned to Blackpool but didn’t play and has since been training with our youth team, not even featuring in Reserve matches.
If the stories are right then he’s a trouble maker but then again it could be down to our manager who seems to have lost the plot with everything this season.
Good luck to Wolves for the rest of the season, if you fail to go up after all this work then there’s no justice in football.

1. I don’t think MM bringing in another keeper with that Murray injury in his mind as paranoid thinking. It would say it is common sense.
If we someone fail this time it will be the greatest disaster in living memory as a Wolves fan; I remain 100% optimistic we are going up as champions and have no concern whatsoever about the Blues game. The best Blues can hope for is scraping a draw to keep their noses in front of reading who I still think will finish second.
In typical fashion for this site I should pour some cold water on my optimism and complain about something; hmm let me think, SEB. He’s done ok but he should have had 30 by now. Lazy that one. Good enough moan?
