A globally-renowned DJ from Walsall is giving something back to the Midlands dance scene by mentoring and training tomorrow’s budding DJ talent from around the Black Country.

Martin Wright, who began his illustrious career behind the decks with successful stints in Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia before returning to the UK to take the reigns of the Birmingham clubbing scene, has supported headlining names such as Danny Rampling, Sandy Rivera, Stonebridge and Brandon Block

His signature brand of soulful, vocal house music was picked up by respected Hed Kandi creator Mark Doyle, who recruited Martin along with several other DJs to represent his new record label and dance brand, Fierce Angels, at gigs all over the world.

Martin now spends his time zipping up and down the country as well as jetting around the Middle East and the Far East to play storming sets as far afield as Dubai, China and Bali.

However, despite being a renowned and respected figure on the house music scene, Martin is using his twenty years of experience to teach budding DJ talent at the Birmingham branch of the DJ Academy, where he nurtures the likes of tomorrow’s Judge Jools and Lisa Lashes.

Nicky Butler went along to find out what it’s like behind the decks.
