Officers from Rugeley neighbourhood policing unit worked with the force’s automatic number plate recognition team.

They also worked with road crime officers on motorbike to crackdown on illegal or dangerous cars. Under the banner of Operation Diesel, officers focussed specifically on speeding in Bower Lane, Armitage Road, Sandy Lane and Prospect Village areas, and checked cars for safety.

Vehicles were also checked to see that they were properly insured as well as identifying cars used in criminal activity.

Four cars were seized for having no insurance, three drivers were fined for speeding while nine motorists were given a fine for using a mobile phone.

One car was found to have dangerous parts and the driver was given a fixed fine, eleven fines were also issued to people not wearing a seatbelt and three charges were issued to cars having no MOT.

Four drivers were fined for number plate offences, one fine was issued for a vehicle being over a weight limit, while two fines were given for failing to display road tax.

A number of drivers were also reported to court and will face magistrates with one for failing to display road tax, three drivers were issued with vehicle defect notices.

Two drivers were reported for driving licence offences with one driver for using a mobile phone.

A further 25 drivers were advised of minor offences

Inspector Chris Ellerton, commander of Rugeley police said: “There is a continuing need to address the concerns of local residents regarding vehicles travelling at excessive speed on certain roads around the Rugeley area.

“Staffordshire Police has an ongoing commitment to road safety.”
