Berra glad of Craddock wisdom

WOLVESTOCK 5 GD 02New boy Christophe Berra will have the wise words of Molineux’s “quiet man” in his ears as he prepares for the biggest challenge of his career.

The Wolves central defender is being tipped for the job of trying to shackle Holland in a orange-washed Amsterdam ArenA, expecting Berra and his Scottish team mates to be put to the sword.

The World Cup qualifying contest against one of the major forces of world football will be a step up from the Championship promotion pursuit – but the influence of Berra’s partner back at Molineux will not be forgotten.

It is the Berra-Jody Craddock partnership which has done so much to stabilise Wolves and help the team reap a 13 from 15 points total, which has settled nerves in the scrap for Premier League football.

Berra said: “Jody is a quiet lad to be fair, but he is a tremendously experienced player and I always take notice of what he says and does.

“He has played a lot longer than me and he knows a lot more than me and he has been a big, big help.

“We are doing well just now – although it is not just down to me and Jody. The full backs are playing well too. We work as a team, win as a team and lose as a team.

“We move forward as a team and play for each other and now we want to go up as a team – that is the main thing.

Those will be the qualities Berra is hoping the Scots can call on as they prepare to face the Dutch with an injury-wrecked team.

He said: “These are big games, but then we have been to places like the Stade De France, done well and got a victory, so I don’t see why we can’t do it again.

“I enjoy the challenge because it is a wee break from the league business and from club training.”
