Kidderminster police say they are reclaiming town parks, so the public can enjoy spending time in them, with extra patrols and organising family fun days.

They have joined forces with parks officers and neighbourhood wardens to mount more patrols of Brinton Park following complaints of anti-social behaviour, under-age drinking and verbal abuse made to visitors.

Now a major campaign has been started to combat people’s fear of anti-social behaviour and this is already proving so successful it is to be extended to other areas.

The campaign, called Love Your Park, was launched in Brinton Park on Valentines Day to show townfolk the park is a fun place to go for a visit or family day out.

Members of The Friends of Brinton Park and West Mercia Police, based in Kidderminster, joined forces to hold a family fun-day.

More than 100 people joined in the fun and now police have said the scheme is to be expanded to St George’s Park where an event is being organised to take place between noon and 4pm on April 19.

Local Policing Officer PC Gordon Robbins said: “The Love Your Park campaign is an opportunity to highlight the work carried out by police and partner organisations to make Kidderminster’s parks a safer place for everyone to enjoy.”
