Henry reveals his title dream
Wednesday 25th March 2009, 10:43AM GMT.
Home boy Karl Henry is dreaming of lifting the Championship trophy after saluting the persistence of his promotion-chasing team-mates.
The Wolverhampton-born midfielder admits that excitement is surging through the club after Wolves’ latest success in the race for the Premier League.
The two-point gain on both Blues and Reading at the weekend was the perfect send-off before the two-week international break and has left Henry and his team mates in buoyant mood as they tick off the days before they return to action.
And while the team’s promotion chase means so much to the Molineux squad, the captain believes it is inevitable his home-town links make it all the more special.
“Yes I have dreamt about lifting the Championship trophy as captain,” says Henry.
“I look forward to that day and hope and pray it happens now.
“If we get promoted it will be massive for everyone associated with the club but for me being the local lad in the team, I admit I will be the first one jumping up and throwing everything around the room.
“I can’t wait for that day. We are getting so close now and it is a really exciting time for the club now.
“It was really important that we ended this spell on a win before the long break for internationals. Psychologically, we go now with everyone happy and the manager is not thinking that there is an awful lot wrong that needs to be worked on.”
And Henry believes the squad’s recovery after that one win in 11 sequence is a tribute to its toughness amid the pressure of a Championship promotion scrap.
He added: “I put our change of form down to persistence. We knew we were going to get these wins sooner or later. ”
* Striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was today sent home from England under-21 duty after suffering a calf strain.
The problem, however, is not serious and he should be fit for Wolves’ clash at Blues on April 6.
and get our game flowing again.”

Yes Karl as a local boy myself I look forward to the day that you lift the trophy. It is a giant leap for the club and I hope that the current management are up to the task. The policy of the young and hungry is right but must be mixed with the best talent available and that costs money big money.ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!!

Good for you, Karl.
If it happens, the City Council should suspend their anti-drinking by-law for one day so that thousands of fans can meet up in Queen Square for the biggest pee-up Wolvo’s seen in years.
Anyone got a spare traffic cone to stick on Prince Albert’s bonce? It’s traditional. ;-)

Can we please start the “who would be buy if/when we go up”?

he’s dreaming about the championship of the championship. Couldn’t care less if we’re first or second or go via the play-offs as long as we go up. i can’t wait to be battered by the Boltons and fulhams of the world. And just think about the visit to Anfield and old trafford. is it all worth it really? Are West Brom fans happy that they’re in the premiership now that they are almost certain to be kicked out of it?
Maybe its best to be a top six in the premiership and enjoy the extra wins and excitement of the chase in the hope you never actually get there.OH well, things are looking good but we are WOLVES and nothing but nothing is certain.

3, No, its tempting fate…oh go on then,

VESPAWOLF > BIT EARLY MATE!
I hope we go for some serious old pro’ in midfield like Hamann from City and may be Wilkshire on loan (as a start)
All you lot that say Lescott and Keane – DREAM ON!!

MANCIENNE… for a start now that would be a good footing in the premier

Go on then Karl do your talking on the pitch over the run in!! We are looking for nothing less than the Title now but I believe the next two games against Blues and Southampton are the most difficult of the run in. I agree, raid the Championship for their best players depending on their respective clubs league status, Ledley, Doyle (Resding), Johnson (J) from Sheff Weds. and Johnson (R) from Cardiff etc.

Watching every week from up here in bonny Scotland all the people i speak to see Wolves going up as Champions!!! Time to start preparing for the Premiership is NOW!!!

Would be fitting to lift it exactly 50 years after the last time…..

If we do win the league then Mick has got to be our greatest manager for what? 20years or so?
Lots of fans will hate this statement, Bob Wolf included, but im afraid it’s true. Isn’t it?

I know where you’re coming from but don’t agree. Yes it does get depressing, players you go after won’t come, losing games you should win because everybody’s got better strikers, referees giving preference to everybody but the new boys etc, etc.
It’s still great going up though and the only way forward for clubs like ours, Blues, Sheff Utd etc is to yoyo, unless you can net a billionaire and they seem to be disappearing rapidly.
The other thing is that although relegation is depressing, we haven’t had a boring season for ten years now, we’re always fighting to go up or stay up. I’m looking forward to a season in the CCC, followed by yet another pop at the Prem. Look forward to the Prem and enjoy it.
Good luck.

18 Stuwolf. He never got us to the top league though did he.
Jones did, so he has to be there, but he never won the league or got a young team to over perform.
For me this is a much bigger acheivement than the 2 wolves great managers, just mentioned.
McGarry and Barnwell are the other 2 great mangers in my lifetime.
Hoddle and McGhee’s picture is in my toilet.

18: Sadly Turner did the last of those promotions 20 years ago
Report abuse
21, Im going with Turner, the signings of Bully, Dennison, Thommo, Mutch, Downing etc were legendary and not only did we win the leagues consecutively, we won did it all at a walk.
In addition, I strongly believe Sir Jack would never of invested his money had we not achieved championship status (Div 2 as it was then and still should be now)
Don’t get me wrong though, I think MM has been our best manager since, quite easily.
We are Wolves.
Win at Blues and we are almost there. Make no mistake when we get promoted MM has done a brilliant job. We all know he is stubborn and has his favourites but there are very few players that he has bought in that have been disasters. He barely had a squad when he started and the policy of young British and Irish is something that them down the road are envious of.
Realistically a point at the Blues, a win v Southampton, a point at Derby and it is promotion with a win at home to QPR. We are capable of beating the lot.
WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED!!!
lets hold off writing off the current group of players – i think the vast majority deserve a shot at the premier league.
what kind of message does it send to them when you say, great you got us promoted, move over.
THe team, as is now a tired cliche is young and growing, let them grow more in the premier league with a sprinkling of star quality here and there.
MAybe i’m wrong then, fair enough those promotion were not within the 20 year time scale as discussed but in my eyes he has been the best for us in modern history, Jones got us up eventually but what should not be forgotton is the collapse the year before.
In all honesty have we had a top quality manager in the past 20 -25 years or so? MM is doing a great job but were not up yet
Report abuse
4m loss? Get promoted and the books are balanced. Meerkat.com! Simples! I am afraid the bank balance is a priority over the team no matter what division they are in.

3: Richard Dunne – sure to be replaced @ Man City

The lines seemed to be jammed with fans, officials and players using the P word. Let’s hope it’s not premature. Let the players have a rest and then give Mcleish the biggest run around he’s had since Bully came on at Wembley.
No doubt the MM knockers will still be out spitting bile and nonsense. (FFS Can somebody explain to some of these potato heads the reality of the Mark Davies affair ?)
Bill McGarry was definately the best after our Stan, but the contributions of Graham Turner and Ronnie Allen mustn’t be forgotten.
(Can’t crown Mick yet….premature !!)

What ppl have to realise is that when a team gets promoted, the players who got you there have to be given a chance in the premier. We can’t jus discard the likes of Henry, Iwelumo, Edwards etc. These are the guys who have got us to where we are. Personally, I think with the addition of Harewood up front (good player) plus a quality centre midfielder and quality centre back, we’ll be able to compete in the prem. My team for the prem would be:
1. Hennesey
2.Foley
3.Elokobi/Hill
4.Berra
5.Newly signed quality centre back
6.Jones
7.Kightley
8.Newly signed quality centre mid
9.Ebanks
10.Harewood
11.Jarvis
I would also bring in a couple of loans such as Wilkshire, Benjani etc. to bolster the squad and add competition. MM should be lookin to buy from man city in the summer as theyre havin a mass clear out.
ps. This is all presuming we actually get promoted, I every faith in the lads and know theyll do it!!!
Don’t think its who we should go for its how much we can afford.if the club are serious then they have to spend big to prove to the would be targets that we are not in the prem to make the numbers up.would think anything over 25mil should
do it for our first season. onwards and upwards

sir jack must get a lot of credit too,he did save us from going under, cant blame the old geezer for packing it in he must be 109 in the shade ,i remember us in the old 4th division, depressing stadiums, look at us now,i think we cud be a surprise package like hull was at the start of the season,we have waited to long for this moment,we deserve it,brum eat your heart out

OH ! BY THE WAY, MAD MICK IS NOT PREMIERSHIP MATERIAL AND WE SHOULD RID OURSELVES OF HIM, WHY NOT CONSIDER INCE, A FITTING REWARD FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE CLUB

On performance so far, you could argue that Ince isn’t ‘Premiership Material’ either !

Liz Simpson. Mick McCarthy has a web of contacts all over the globe. He has international experience, he has been a manager for nearly 22 years, he has won promotion with Sunderland, nearly won it with lowly Millwall and has managed an international team to a world cup.
Had one season in the premier and was given no money and to no ones surprise got relegated. And on this one negative he shall be judged???!!! Why???
May I give you anohter example of this. Wigan, went up with Paul Jewell in a very similar way to how we are. Paul Jewlell left but the money was still there to help the next manager continue the good work. Hey presto they are having relative success.
Paul Jewell the very same manager, in the very same league, went to another club who spent no money, Derby. And look waht happened there. Did Paul Jewell become a bad manager overnight?
Phil Brown got the sack in the prem, came back with Hull City and is a great manager again as he has spent some cash.
Mick keeps proving his doubters wrong time after time. The doubters were saying that Mick will not be here after Christams. He is and we are looking great.
Mick is more than good enough. He is highly respected in the game and his service to this club is un questionable.
As for Ince. No way, he cocked up at Blackburn and he was given some money. Needs to get more experience to get anywhere close to McCarthy. Ince is a good lower league manager.
This is not an opinon it is fact. MAybe the Ince bit is an opinon.

Some great ideas on signings and very positive. Mick should stay. I can feeling the positive vibes and it is great. With Pompey in financial trouble, Stoke and Hull bound to be suffering ’2nd season syndrome’ and the 2 coming up with us will be struggling, I think we can survive, any 5 of this bunch will keep us up:
Mancienne
Chris Eagles
Danny Gabbidon
Adam Johnson
Calum Davenport
Seb Larsson
Aaron Ramsay (loan)
Jack Wiltshire (loan)
Lee Carsley
Marlon Harewood
Nicky Shorey
David Wheater
Jonas Olsson
Jeremie Aliadiere
Michael Ball
Michael Johnson
Frazier Richardson

Micks big strength is in the Transfer market and his scouting network, he gets the right players at good prices, what would they sell for now?:
Kightly 25k / 5 mil?
Keough 500k/ 1mil?
ebanks blake 1.5m/ 6-7mil?
Elokobi 600k/ ?
Jarvis 600k/ 2-3mil?
Foley 750k/ 4mil?
Vokes 200k / 1 mil?

41- Moses is a very good shout, a young talented player, their club are in financial meltdown. I also like the idea of a 1.5mil cut price Nicky Shorey. Possibly a move for Sidwell?

McGarry And Barnwell
Lol.. i cant stop laughing.. Two dreadful managers.. The rot started then, thats why we’ve had 26 years outside of top flight football.. Barnwell destroyed the club, and McGarry was no better. I remember sitting watching the team slowly fall apart.
Crickey, I knew that most people were thick on here, but not that thick.
And Micks great strenght is the transfer market? You are having a laugh.
He signed Kightly and Ebanks Blake without ever seeing them play. They were recommended by other managers. And, 90% of his signings have been utter rubbish, and will continue to be.
McGarry a dreadful manager ? Really ! so that great team he put together Bailey, Dougan, Richards, Waggy, Hibbitt, Munro, Mcalle, Hegan etc some he bought some he inherited, but, he melded them into a top five side and took them to the only European Final we’ve ever been, You obviously don’t remember those years, those nights . Thick ? 64 clearly ain’t your IQ. Bet you felt at home on Red Nose day, Clown

Wolves Are Going Up said (post 25):
“what kind of message does it send to them when you say, great you got us promoted, move over”.
The simple answer your question is:
“You’ve done the job that you were VERY WELL PAID FOR and the club thanks you for your contribution.
Unfortunately, it is of our opinion that your footballing ability does not meet the necessary standard required for a newly-promoted, Premiership club that is looking to survive its inaugural season. Furthermore, it would be extremely foolish on our part to put personal sentiment before the greater good of this exceedingly famous football club.
No offence intended, but if a top side like Liverpool or Man Utd had come knocking at Molineux’s door for your signature, we both know that you’d have soon disappeared down the road without a second thought for this football club: that’s because your personal ambitions and career would naturally have taken priority over ourselves. It would have been perfectly understandable, too.
Well, to put things into perspective, we’re taking a similar course of action -the only difference being that we’re putting the CLUB’S career first, not YOURS. Accordingly, we hope you’ll view our decision with equally sympathetic understanding.
We realise how disappointing and upsetting our decision must be, but this is business and nobody but NOBODY is bigger or more important than Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. We owe it to our long-suffering, devoted supporters to provide them with as strong a team as possible in the Premiership, and we hope that you’ll keep that in mind.
Once again, we thank you for your efforts and trust that the more than healthy bank balance you currently enjoy will somewhat soothe your disappointment. We’re sure that most of our fans would have been delighted to have been so generously rewarded.
Finally, please drop by the main office and collect your P45 at your earliest convenience.
Oh, and please shut the door quietly as you leave the premises, thanks”
