Davies in the clear – Olsson
Wednesday 25th March 2009, 12:50PM GMT.
Jonas Olsson has cleared Bolton’s Kevin Davies of any blame over the split lip that left him needing six stitches.
Olsson was left bleeding at the end of the 1-1 draw with Bolton on Saturday after an elbow by Davies.
But the Swedish defender, who floored West Ham keeper Robert Green with an elbow five days earlier, says both clashes were accidental.
He said: “I got and elbow from Davies, I think unintentionally. I gave one away in the West Ham game and now I have had one back.
“It is uncomfortable but it is healing. Football is a contact sport and you take the knocks. It is part of the game. You give a few away and you get a few back. It is how it should be.”
Olsson was on community duty yesterday as he joined former England defender Martin Keown at Pensnett School for the launch of Communicating for Success, a programme run by the Baggies, BT and the Football Foundation.
Youngsters filmed the event as part of the scheme, which is designed to improve youngsters’ computer skills.
Keown said: “The kids were bright and seemed to have real personality, which was good to see, and they were taking a real active role by filming everything. We have been around the country and done 10 or 11 programmes and we’re trying to use footballers as the vehicle for learning. When they see footballers, who are the heroes in the community, then they will come along and try to learn.”
