Hoefkens prepared to leave Albion

Tuesday 24th March 2009, 12:26PM GMT.

hoefkens.jpegAlbion defender Carl Hoefkens expects to leave the Hawthorns in the summer if the Baggies are relegated.

The Belgian international cannot understand his lack of first-team football this season and says he will probably move on at the end of the season.

Hoefkens’ contract expires in the summer but the club have the option to extend it for a season.

But the stopper lost his place to £3.2m Dutchman Gianni Zuiverloon at the start of this season and has started just six Premier League games.

He said: “If we’re relegated, the chances are high that I l will leave the club. We had a bad weekend with the draw against Bolton, because the teams close to us won.

“We should not give up, but that will not be easy. I was expecting more (this season) but we can only blame ourselves because our ranking is due to our mistakes.

“We have made a number of stupid defensive mistakes and lost many games.”

Hoefkens has not played since the 3-2 home defeat by Newcastle on February 7.

He added: “I don’t understand why I lost my place in the starting XI. When I played, we took many points. I have to respect the coach’s choice but it’s frustrating.”

So he wants to leave because were going down, well Chap the only premier league team you will get in are those who are coming up (so you will get relegated with them aswell)

    Bye Bye

Hoefkens can work out why he’s no longer a regular in the team – might it have something to do with not being good enough?

To be fair to the bloke, our best spell of results did coincide with him replacing Zuvi at right back……but if thinks he has been unjustly treated, take a look at the other full back position where an international with Champions League experience at a top club, who has not put a foot wrong when he has played, can barely get a kick.

Based on Zuiverloon’s form of late (Well since about the tenth game of the season!) Hoekens has every right to be agrieved at losing his place. He’s played well whenever he’s been in the team this season and last. Will be a loss to the squad if he goes, but i suppose at least we’ll at least get back what we paid

I agree with him. He’s better than the overrated Zuiverloon. We should keep Hoefkens and sell Zuiverloon, hopefully for as much as we bought him, but I doubt if we’d get half that much.

In my opinion anybody that states a desire not to be at OUR club can go with pleasure, I hope we can see some loyalty from certain players although in this day an age it will be money that dictates.

I think in all honesty he’s a good CCC player, although he got skinned a few times last year. Better going forward than defending and I’d be very surprised to see a Prem team come in for him. Zuiv is young and will improve, a season in the CCC will help to get his confidence back. I think in all honesty I was one of the ones that thought we would do quite well in the Prem. I admit that the gap is much greater than I thought. Perhaps long ball, hit and hope, kick and bite football is the only way newly promoted clubs can hope to survive. I do know that if we keep the present manager we won’t resort to this but he will be much better prepared next time around.

I cannot see the logic in keeping players if they cannot play. I think that he shopuld remove scott carson and give him a rest and put kiely back in goal because he got them up give him a chance in goal now

    13) Tony there is loyalty to a club (Which i agree should be expected) but if he’s being unfairly overlooked week in week out in place of an out-of-form albeit highly talented youngster then can you blame him for wanting to leave? It shows he wants to play football as opposed to sitting in the reserves collecting his wages every week!

No doubt if we played him every game now till the end of the season and guaranteed him first choice next season he’d stay whatever division we were in!

That would be the Scott Carson that’s conceded one goal in his last two games, to bring in a bloke in his late thirties that hasn’t played all season. Van de Saar has conceded six perhaps they should get rid of him.

To all Baggies supporters. Get behind the players and stop whinging, you’re sounding more like the Wolves supporters every day.

We’re not down yet look at the positives the defence has stopped leaking in stupid goals, I would like to see Dorrans start against Stoke he’s played well when he has been on.

I would also like to see more involvement of Cech, Hoefkens, Teixeira, Moore and give Mulumbu a try, but TOMO has got to put them on at half time to give them chance to make an impact, we must go for the all out attack with at least three strikers if we are going to survive.

Com’on you Baggies go for it you can still do it, grit your teeth and fight to the death it’s not over till the fat lady sings.
