Hat-trick of wins enough for Edwards

Tuesday 24th March 2009, 10:59AM GMT.

WOLVESTOCK 6 GD 16Wolves midfielder David Edwards believes the Championship leaders are just three wins away from promotion to the Premier League.

With Birmingham and Reading both held at the weekend, the two-point gain for the leaders had the players conducting their own promotion calculations over the weekend, after their own 1-0 victory over struggling Nottingham Forest.

Now Edwards, who has played an impressive role in the team’s recovery from the New Year slump which threatened to de-rail the promotion campaign, believes victory in the crunch at Birmingham a week is the key to a promotion celebration.

He said: “It depends on how Reading get on in their game in hand. But if we go to Birmingham and win that puts us eight points clear of them with five to play.

“So you realisitically feel if we win the next three games, you would think that would be enough for maybe both the title and to get up automatically.

“We’re just looking at the Birmingham game and that’s what all our focus is on. If we win that one it will put us in a great position.”
