A historic Black Country factory site was today on the verge of a buy-out deal.

Administrators hope to complete the sale of land previously occupied by Mazak Ltd, in Willenhall Lane, Bloxwich, within the next 48 hours.

It is thought the move could save at least six jobs at the site, which has been a factory since 1902.

Fifty workers have been axed at the metal alloys company, which went into administration last month.

Around 15 were kept on by administrators Smith & Williamson, with the last few set to leave today.

Mazak, formerly the Delaville Spelter Works, produced alloys for car parts in the UK, western Europe and the Far East.

James Money, of Smith & Williamson, today said: “We are working on it and hope to complete a deal within the next 48 hours.

“We are very close, but no deal has been done yet. With this sort of thing, even if something has been agreed in principal, we can never be entirely certain until everything is signed.”

The company, known locally as The Spelter, produced zinc-based alloys for diecasting and galvanising, but the new deal will involve a phosphate plant on the site that produces zinc-based pigments for the paint and pharmaceutical industries.
