The life-support machine of an 11-month-old baby who fell from the first floor window of his Black Country home was being turned off today, the child’s uncle has revealed.

Cy Withers fell into the back garden of the house in West Road, Tipton, just before 12.20pm on Mother’s Day. His parents and doctors were said to be making the agonising decision to turn off his life-support machine at Birmingham Children’s Hospital this morning.

Cy was left in a critical condition with multiple injuries and fighting for his life after the fall on Sunday.

Police have said the fall is being treated as an accident at this stage. The youngster’s uncle Steven Withers, 44, of Mayhouse Close in Tipton, said today his nephew had been unable to breathe on his own.

He said: “Overnight they have just left him on the machines and told the parents they could hold him and give him the last goodbyes.”

He fell onto concrete in the back garden of the two-storey semi-detached home where he lives with his parents Tim and Jane Withers and their four other children. The alarm was raised by one of Cy’s siblings, who was thought to have been in the bedroom at the time.

Neighbours have described the family as “lovely”.
