Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Harewood joins Wolves on loan
Monday 23rd March 2009, 4:39PM GMT.
Wolves have completed the signing of Marlon Harewood on loan from Villa until the end of the season.
The striker, who has been out in the cold at Villa Park all season, will boost Mick McCarthy’s options for the final six games of the Championship campaign.
Villa have a 24-hour recall option on the 29-year-old once he completes the first 28 days of his loan, which will be after the home clash with QPR on April 18.
The ex-West Ham and Nottingham striker is expected to make his debut in the top-of-the-table clash with Birmingham in two weeks.

Hope he likes the bench, because he will not get a game in front of Keogh and MM love kid Ward

Good signing! proved in championship before, also what we got to lose? nothing
Report abuse
On the bench only please. Not a time to experiment. We are the top scorers in the whole football league, do not mess around at this stage. Impact player only.
First Quashie now Homer Simpson! Another rubbish signing! He ay no better than SEB, Iwelmuwo, Vokes or Keogh. Muppet Mick out!
Think he will be a good signing with only seb scoreing up front at mo we need him.

Great loan signing.
Lets ruffle some defenders up with this 17 stone monster!!
magic mick,s done it again, you can just picture it, harewood comes on as sub and gets the winning goal against the blues.this season just gets sweeter and sweeter…deep in my heart i do believe.
Hope he’s fit enough for that?
Personally I’m delighted with this signing. He’s a very good player at this level and not a bad premiership player as he proved at West Ham. Ebanks Blake and Harewood could do some serious damage in the championship!
Great news. IT just gets better and better.
Basically a premier League quality Iwelumo.
Go on Marlon you big hunk of loving. I wouldn’t put him straight in though. Let’s stick with BCI and SEB for the Blues game. Bring on Marlie-Marl once big old lump Jaidi is suitably battered.
Could be quite agood signing
Report abuse
I think this is a good move by Jez and Mick, however not the player i would want to sign on a permanent basis WHEN we get promoted. On a personal note heres a few on my wishlist :
1. Joleon Lescott
2. Robbie Keane
3. Mancienne
4. Koumas
5. Bendtner from Arsenal
Lets here some more Wolves fans….

SUPERB SIGNING!!!!!!!!!
We’re going up in styleee!!
Wolves champions with 2 games to spare, mark my words!!!!
Sound, hes got pace and strength But….. dont he look like Homer Simpson
Report abuse
Get in.. Nice one
Report abuse
not exactly a great player but he has proven to be deadly at championship level. lets face it if SEB gets injured we would of been done for but at least by bringing harewood in we have a near “suitable” replacement in terms of goalscoring, and if we are struggling with 15-20 mins left he is a player who can pop up n score vital goals. so all in all id say its one of micks better recruitments!
This guy is a donkey!! No better than Quashie or Reid!!
good player to sign for the last push we need back up if SEB gets a knock big strong lad and scores goals so lets get behind him and help the lads to the promise land
Report abuse
THIS GUY ALONG WITH OUR OTHER 3 MAIN STRIKERS WILL GIVE US THE BEST FIRE POWER IN THE DIVISION AND WE WILL BLOW OUR WAY TO THE PREMIER ( THE OTHER 3 DO NOT INCLUDE KEOGH ) IM REFERING TO REAL STRIKERS AND PLAY THEM IN PAIRS 45 MINS OR SO EACH AWSOME THOUGHT!

A proven player in the championship whom gets goals as well as makes them.
Top of the league six games to go and still Mick has his knockers! why? get behind the lads. Marlon is an inspired signing who will only add to our strengths. Great work behind the scenes lets just hope work is being done now on deals in time for our impending premier arrival
Report abuse
whys everyone always so negative??? does my head in!!!
i think its a quality signing… up the wolves!!!
Good loan signing, will be a handfull for any defence we play against from now till may! like on saturday and all season Lumes battering into defenders and wearing them out then having vokes come on to finish them off harewood will cause allsorts of problems if he comes on and hopefully score some goals!
Wouldnt pay 2.5 m for him though next season and i certainly think we could attract better players aswell! WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED
Report abuse
The management will never please some people will they? Don’t know much about the guy (marooned in London) but if MM thinks it’s worth a punt that’s good enough for me. Nice to see the majority like it as well with just the usual suspects calling for the head of the manager…..cos thats worked in the past aint it!
Good luck Marlon…
Became a fans favourite here lads and he’s a decent signing for you lot, take out SEB and he’s as good as any of your forwards and he didnt get his chances at VP after scoring on numerous occasions on the bench.
He is as good at championship level so good move for wolves and the player
Good luck for rest of the season!!!
great loan signing, powerful and proven at this level, ideal cover just in case, what with the internationals. and like mick says has a point to prove!!!!
14 wolves ay we, agree with you but what about huddlestone from spurs, and maybe nicky butt if newcastle go down. I’d love to get lescot back but i dont think we could afford him now, but you never know !!!

I am very pleased with this. He should be one of the best strikers in the championship.
He’s got a better record than Iwelumo and I think we’ll all agree ‘lumes’ has gone off the boil and been off his game for some time now. Marlon should have the hunger to want to impress in the short time he has this season. He should be that extra fire power that makes sure we are promoted.
Villa fan in peace: He’s a great signing for you, you’ll go up now and I bet Marlon’ll score against us next season. Top bloke, very best of luck to him.
1,3,4,19………..GIVE IT A REST , so negative on everything wolves……..you`ve got to be Albion muppets……GREAT SIGNING…..COME ON YOU WOLVES
Report abuse
14, can i have some of what your on? those would be some amazing signings ;) well except koumas but you cant have everything.
personally id quite like to see carlos vela on loan from arsenal, ryan taylor and kevin nolan from newcastle upon thier relegation (though theres no one from borough or wba id give a thank you for) and we do need an old midfeilder whos ben there and done it all before so what about dacourt? personally ive always prefered gravsen but its been so long since hes played now he’d be too much of a risk for my liking.
and ims ure man city will have a huge cler out in the summer making it the fottballing equivilant to pick n mix, any 2 or 3 from micheal ball, kompany, petrov, johnson, ben-hiam. even caciado ( 8 starts and 4 goals is good enough for me in our first season anyway)
its an ideal time to be going up. especially with teams like man city spending a fortune, measn their current stock should be avaliable at a reasonable price to help clear the decks. lets hope we dont blow it =D
Report abuse
I agree with the majority, this guy can definately score goals at this level. Power and Pace and once we scores one he’ll get a hat full.
I have to say there are some very negative fans in our ranks – talk of us getting rid of a manager who has spent less in 2-3 years than some managers pent in a pre season, and we’re top of the league.
We’ve had some good Managers at Wolves and booted them out before now – such as Dave Jones, Graham Taylor and now Mick. We need to let one guy stick at the helm and mould us a team that goes from strength to strength.
Judge MM after 5-6 years not 2-3.
Great signing, international break will mean he gets time to train with the lads and fit in! Great news all round
Report abuse
I hate it when people slag this guy off!
Heres a powerful stricker who’s had a rough time at the villa, nearly 30 and with something to prove! not too disimiliar to Big Chris when he came to us at the start of the season. I reckon he could do alright. only got SEB scoring consistantly so why not mix it up.
Up the Wolves!

vvolvo.
I’m not normally one to slag people off on here as I find it’s normally pointless. Though in your case!!!!!
Muppet mick out, perhaps a brain transplant for you instead. We’re 5 points clear at the top of the league with six games to go with only one real striker who you expect to score more often than not so MM brings in a player with an almost prolific record in the CCC, hopefully with a point to prove.
Absolutely no loss on our part and yet still you moan…
I guess you must be a fan (in other words something that produces a lot of air) as opposed to being a supporter who supports all things WOLVES…..
Anyway, I think it’s a good signing, big strong player who with trouble defenses as our forward line is lightweight when Keogh get’s involved and speaking to West Ham fans down here he’s also really good at dropping deep and connecting the play…

I can remeber when the lad went to West Ham and proved the doubters wrong and scored goals in the Prem
Kenny Burns (Ex Forest) used to slaughter the lad in his stint on Century 106FM in Nottingham and thats when he (Marlon) played for the tricky trees!
Hope he is fit enough to make a difference and also hope he is on a mission to prove his Villa sceptics wrong
Is he any better than SEB Big Chris or Vokes? We shall see!
IF he plays like he did for West Ham – no problem BUT you never know what you’re gonna get!
C’mon me babbbiiiees!

I just cannot believe some people are still having a go at MM and the team , give them a break its a good signing as a backup striker we need to be sure this time and everyone needs to support the whole team , although i doubt everyone will but they will do it without your support as they have all season.

Cant lose out, has the ability to make an impact in our last games then with only a year to go on his contract could be available at a reasonable price? Wouldnt mean though we wouldnt need further signings up front in the prem. Right now though Im happy!

Mick is going for the win in each of our last six games. For the knockers no manager is going to let go any striker with the pedigree that we all desire. Harewood will be a very good impact player, after all not many of the strikers are scoring on a regular basis. We must all just keep the faith.
i think marlon harewood with his power, will cause nervy defender at this at this time of the season, will cause problems up front, go the wolves.

I tell you Bob, where do you sit (if you actually go) cause id love to speak with those who sit around you (and ask why they havent forced you out the ground before now!)
The lad has experience, not only at top level but at getting out of this league. We need level mature heads for this final push, isn’t this what he is??? Someone to have around, someone to use his experience in tough games that maybe we didnt have before?!
Can’t wait to see him play, and if we go up, definatly a player we could do with in the squad next season (squad player though!)

21. I think the sun has gone to your head mate! Quote;
REAL STRIKERS AND PLAY THEM IN PAIRS 45 MINS OR SO EACH AWSOME THOUGHT!
I remember earlier in the season when we had all 3 keepers to choose from, some kid (I’m assuming it was a kid who had broken his championship manager game) suggested we give the keepers half each to keep em happy!
For me, this site, on the funny scale, has now surpassed Benny from Cross Roads.
You can spot a Mick Out comment a million miles away. 9 points clear of third, 6 games to go, form side in the division- the supposed groaners are either Albion fans, wind up merchants or both.
14. Optimistic Hat Award is yours; Lescott, Mancienne AND Robbie Keane.
Don’t let this promotion excitement go to you head son, this Homer Simpson character is bound to score a couple of own goals. I think Collins is a better midfielder but thick Mick will never give him another game since he found out he isn’t his best mate after all.
My mate, a reliable source, you heard it here first (my mate works for the club; he puts price stickers on the discounted scarfs in the club shop) says Mick was enjoying a cup of Yorkshire tea and a packet of Garibaldie biscuits in the canteen the other day when he saw Collins and Wardy swapping Nintendo games and arranging a ‘Computer Tourno’ at young Keogh’s place for Friday. Apparently he was so shocked the Garibaldi he was dipping got too soggy and plopped in his tea. My mate says Mick says none of them will play for this club again. His big head and stubborn attitude gets in the way yet again. I predict we will lose in the play offs, probably to Leicester. On penalties.

Living near Nottingham, in previous seasons I used to really enjoy watching the battles between Lescott & Harewood, the best players in their respective teams. Both men have been plying their trade in the Premiership while WWFC have lanquished in the Championship.
Given that, and as I don`t think any of our current crop of players have Premiership experience, the Harewood loan move has to be good business. It gives us options now and maybe for next year. Well done MM.
not a bad signing but not prem class and what about vokes every time he come on does well,so yet another young player who will not get much chance. big worry is who he will try and get when we go up none of the player he has been linked with are better than we have got need at leased 6 good player our midfield is not even good championship class, going up is one thing staying up is another and with muppet mick who has a very bad record very worrying.
A solid, reliable signing to support SEB and see us over the finishing line.
Not my idea of a Premiership striker, though….but, knowing Mick, it’ll be a done deal, because Marlon likes to put a shift in.
Still, good work, Mick, in bringing him here for the Championship ONLY. Just the job, mate.

Need to get jarvis fit, to supply harewood, and stop playing Ward, nice chap i am sure, but just not good enough.

Koumas is a very good shout if we get promoted. Marlon Harewood is an excellent addition imagine being tired after 65 mins of Iwelumo and this monster coming on, I can see him getting the winner at blues as insult to injury. Mick knows next season needs huge changes he has already said, so we are all signing from the same songbook:
Koumas
Mancienne
Sol cambell (free)
Justin Hoyte
Chris Eagles
Jimmy Kebe (if reading not promoted)
Calum Davenport
Tom Huddlestone
Alan Smith (if newcastle relegated)

I havnt been convinced with Wolves for half this season and couldnt really see us going up……….we played un attractive stuff, poor at times and even when we were winning it was not convincing………..
However……….for the first time I now actually believe we will do it. To be in this position and then sign quality such as this on loan, I cannot see us not winning at least 2 out of 6 games, meaning Reading would have to win 5 out of their 7 remaining………….We are not there yet but a big congratulations to the Chief Exec and Mick for not resting on their lorrels and bringing this guy in on loan. Great move, we are going up and for the first time in ages I am really proud of my team.
“WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED!!!”

94. Personally, I’d much rather the Tescos stayed up seeing as we’re nearly there. The Premiership is the only fitting arena for our white-hot, Black Country derby games. They would be great, sporting occasions for the entire area.
It would also be tremendous for West Midlands football if Wolves, Tescos, Villa and Blues were all in the top flight. I’d like to see our clubs break the stranglehold of the polarized North-South make-up and return to the old days when every other game was a derby. That’s real excitement, not facing the likes of poxy Fulham, Wigan, Bolton or Blackburn.
Great days for sure when we were all at the top. Just a pity many on here won’t even have been born, let alone remember it…

100. For your benefit, Booster, I’ll repeat what I said in post 97, and I quote:
“I’d like to see our clubs break the stranglehold of the polarized North-South make-up and return to the old days when every other game was a derby. That’s real excitement, not facing the likes of poxy Fulham, Wigan, Bolton or Blackburn”.
Obviously, you totally misunderstood what I was trying to say. I simply meant that it would be great to have MORE West Midlands teams in the Premiership. I made no reference whatsoever to “competing at the business end of the top tier” as you put it, and I certainly didn’t imply it, either. Taking on the top sides, as you correctly suggest, would indeed be plain crazy to even contemplate at this moment in time.
No, my point about “breaking the stranglehold of the polarized North-South make-up” was a direct reference to the SHEER NUMBERS of Northern and Southern teams currently occupying the Premiership. It’s virtually a North-South split.
Meanwhile, the Midlands region, as a whole, is severely under-represented in the Prem. The likes of Wolves, Blues, Forest, Derby, Coventry and Leicester are all missing. Very shortly, the Tesco Bags will be joining them, and that only leaves Villa and Stoke -and the Clayheads aint safe, either!
So, the Premiership is, as I originally said, “polarized” in its graphical make-up. That’s why I’d much rather have derby matches when we get there: it’s far more exciting and benefits our region, too.
Hope that clears it up.
