Monday 23rd March 2009, 11:30AM GMT.

A baby is fighting for his life in hospital after falling from a first floor window in Tipton.

Eleven month old Cy Withers fell into the back garden of the house in West Road just before 12.20pm yesterday.

He was today in a critical condition in Sandwell Hospital with multiple injuries which are believed to be life-threatening. Police have said inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing but the fall is being treated as an accident at this stage.

He fell onto a concrete surface in the back garden of the two-storey semi-detached home where he lives with his parents Tim and Jane Withers and their four other children.

His parents were today keeping a bedside vigil at the hospital. The boy was still conscious but in a serious condition when he was taken by ambulance to Sandwell Hospital within nine minutes of paramedics arriving at the scene.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Catherine Preece said: “The incident is being treated as an accident at this stage.”
