Fountain to stay off due to cuts

walsallfountainNo water will flow from Walsall’s showpiece fountain in the near future because of council cost-cutting, it has emerged.

The £2 million Source of Ingenuity in Civic Square was switched off in 2005 because of fears of Legionnaires Disease contamination.

But now there are thousands of pounds worth of repairs needed and council chiefs, who are trying to save £12 million over the next 12 months, say they do not have enough funds.

Walsall Council’s assistant director of built environment Keith Stone said: “We will continue to try to identify funding.”
