Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Villa blog: Knock it off

Villa blogger Dave Bytheway wants no repeat of the crowd reaction that marred the home game with Tottenham.
From a great high, we have now reached a massive low in this strange season, and I just hope we can get out of it quickly.
Against Stoke, we were five minutes away from sitting eight points clear of Arsenal on the same games. Now, after Sunday’s dreadful defeat against Spurs, we find ourselves in fifth place looking over our shoulders at Everton.
There seems to be a complete lack of confidence in the squad at the moment, which is strange considering our position, but then again football is a game where confidence plays a major part in team performance.
When one player is low, they can be carried, when everyone is low this happens.
We started badly against Spurs, finding ourselves a goal down after four minutes, not the best start in front of another near sell out crowd. We had chances but never really bothered their goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes too much.
The second half started the same, another goal within four minutes,so the atmosphere changed totally.
In all my years watching games at Villa Park, I can count one one hand the times it’s been like that. Moaning everywhere, booing everywhere, getting on the players backs, it really was a poor display from the Villa fans.
The reaction Gabby Agbonlahor received when substituted was an absolute disgrace to put it mildly. OK, he is off form, not playing his best by all means, but it’s just not happening for the lad.
But he still tries, still gives his all, so to cheer when his number was held up shows what some of the fans know about football.
We now have two of the toughest games of the season, away at Manchester United and Liverpool. Strangely enough I expect us to get something from them, but most of all we can’t let Arsenal get too far away.
If our manager Martin O’Neill would have added more to the squad in January, I don’t feel we would be in this situation.
Our defence at the end of the game proved this, with James Milner right back, Nigel Reo-Coker left back, Luke Young and Carlos Cuellar at centre-half, stretched to say the least!
When you are doing well and on a high, it’s the time to add, but I have no idea on how things went behind the scenes, so it’s not my place to criticise a gentleman who has worked wonders for our football club.
Hopefully my next blog will be a little happier.
Have a good weekend. Up the Villa!

“The boo’s are coming from a small minority of Villa fans, who don’t appreciate everything Villa have achieved this season”
Wrong
They are smart enough to realise that O’Neill and the players are getting paid many times their annual salary to play football to the best of the ability.
I would take that in a heartbeat, boos or no boos. If O’Neill or the players are fickle enough to only take the positive then they can quit the game and I’ll take one of their places.
