Jarvis remains on the sidelines

Tuesday 17th March 2009, 12:01PM GMT.

BURNLEY V WOLVES 21 GD 14Matt Jarvis looks like missing the next leg of Wolves’ promotion journey as he recovers from a medial ligament injury.

The flying winger could be out until the Birmingham game on April 6 after missing the last five games, initially with an infected foot.

But, after spending two days in hospital, the 22-year-old also suffered a knee injury and still hasn’t returned to full training.

Jarvis recently signed a new contract to 2011, but injuries have restricted him to just 33 starts out of 85 League games, plus 15 more as a substitute, since joining the club.

Boss Mick McCarthy said: “I don’t know about Jarvo – he needs to train so we’ll see.

“He’s hurt his medial ligament. Sometimes when you open the knee joint up, it takes a bit longer to heal.”

McCarthy cast doubt over whether Jarvis would be fit for Saturday’s Midlands derby at Nottingham Forest.

The manager said: “It’s unlikely, but we’ll see. He’s got to train first, but if he doesn’t make it for Saturday, we’ve got 16 days until the next game and then there’s six matches left after that.

“I’m not killing him to get back (for this one).”

The Molineux chief also admitted keeper Carl Ikeme is unlikely to play again this season, as he recovers from a back injury.

But Chris Iwelumo will be fit for Saturday, despite his ankle injury.

It must have been one hell of an infection to spread so quickly from his big toe to his knee, let’s hope they managed to stop it before it goes any higher!!

I am not a Ward hater, as he has filled in well at full back, but I would prefer Friend on the left side of midfield. He is not injured, as I spoke to him on Saturday.
Irrespective, Wolves to win on Saturday 2 or 3 nil!

I am not too sure if i like all this talk of “premiership” and “triumph” at this stage of the season .

Whilst quietly confident , I am also very aware that things have a habit of biting you in the bum very quickly ( ask mr rooney if he wished he had kept his gob shut about hating Liverpudlians !! )

Forest will be a tough match , having let in 5 last week and fighting against the drop . I’d settle for another 1-0 to the lads.

    Well, kiwiwolf

Me and you have had our disagreements in our time…

and im goin disagree with you now, Jarvis aint a sick note, he wants to play, is a winger a thus likley to get more knocks and pulls.

    Sick notes include…

    Nigel Quashie
    Darren Anderton
    Tony Daley

Alhough i have to say tony dayleys done a fantastic job in fitness coach….

.. very few injuries this year
.. and lads always look fitter than their opponents in my opinion.

Anyway, i think everything will be decided on 6th March v the blue noses

So co mon you wolves !!!!!!

Ward can’t run, i’d rather have a one legged Jarvis.

surely at this point of the season with 7 games left they can play… its not as if they have a broken leg..
Like 7 said a one legged Jarvo would be better than Ward but then again so would Reid but we all know Ward is one of the favourites…

    9. kiwiwolf….I’ve always thought you were a sensible sort of poster and appreciated and respected your input. However, this time you’ve gone the other way. Would you really see one of our stars risk his whole future with the club for 7 games ? Medial ligament damage could end a career if it’s not given time to heal. Remember that tackle of Gazza’s in the FA Cup Final some years ago ? After that he was a shadow of his former self because it wasn’t given enough time to heal.
On another point how many games have you seen Ward play in this year ? I agree he’s not a proper left back but by Christ he’s sweated blood for this team and love him or hate him you have to give him repect.
No, I think you should re-think your post !! Sorry my friend

Have to agree with comment 8, why are we not looking at the loan market until the end of the season. We bought Reid in and he looks dreadful, Reading seem to be seriously bolstering their numbers and I am certain there must be a winger out there who would welcome a kick about for the last 7 games of the season???!!!

@ 6. costa del wolf – not a sick note? He has featured in just over 50% of the matches that he has been at the club – even the ford car workers turn up for work more often!!

Have to smile about Tony Daley though, I thought it was a contradiction in terms when he was named fitness coach! although I suppose all that time in the treatment room has eventually paid off for him. In which case, when do you think Mr Anderton will become Dr Anderton?

George Friend played in the Reserve match yesterday for just over an hour (incidently it was his cross that led to the goal). So with Jarvis definitely out, we must play Friend or at the very least Reid on the left wing at Forest.

As other posters have said, you can’t knock Ward’s effort and commitment and he has done well at left back but he offers us nothing on the left wing and Hill is more steady at left back.

Therefore Mick, for the greater good of the team, you need to start with Hill and Friend and put Ward on the bench.

NO NUMBER 1 DO YOU THINK HE WENT FOR TREATMENT AT STAFFORD.
SERIOUSLY HE AIN’T BEEN THE BEST BUY FOR US WHEN HE CAME HE WAS INJURED. IF I HAD AS MUCH TIME OFF LIKE JARVO AND KITES I WOULD BE SACKED (NOT GET 6 GRAND+ A WEEK)
