New hope for at-risk golf course

grangegolfcourseThere was fresh hope for Walsall’s closure-threatened Grange Golf Course today after it was revealed two mystery parties have expressed an interest in taking it over.

Finance chiefs have agreed the town’s only municipal golf course should close to save the council around £36,000 a year.

But golfers launched a campaign to save the popular nine hole course in the Arboretum Extension, off Broadway North, and council bosses issued an appeal for a private company to take over the reins.

Council leader Councillor John O’Hare revealed there has been some interest expressed in the site.

“There are a couple of current enquiries which are being considered but we’re not in a position to share details at this present time,” he said.

There was an outpouring of public support for the Grange following the announcement it would be axed.
