Jarvis closing on Wolves recall

Wednesday 11th March 2009, 1:15PM GMT.

BURNLEY V WOLVES 21 GD 14Matt Jarvis is closing in on a Wolves return against Charlton this Saturday as boss Mick McCarthy bids to keep his team fresh.

The flying winger wasn’t risked in this afternoon’s reserve friendly against Crewe, but has been working hard on his fitness as he battles back from a knee injury and an infected foot and could be in contention for a place in the Championship top-versus-bottom clash.

“Jarvo could possibly be closer to a recall,” said McCarthy .

“He didn’t do a great deal today because he’s been working hard, but we’ll see how he is.”

Jarvis has missed the last four games after a blister sustained in the Cardiff game became infected and he had to spend two days in hospital.

More good news came with the bulletin that on-loan Nigel Quashie should join fellow central midfielder Karl Henry in being available for the visit of the Addicks – who held third-placed Reading to a 2-2 draw away last night – after a chest infection. Henry has completed a two-match ban.

“Quashie might be available – he’s playing in the game against Crewe today,” confirmed McCarthy.

The Wolves admits he will continue to consider changes to keep his players fresh.

“Charlton will come to us having played Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday so there’s no advantage for them,” he said. “If I need to put fresh legs in, I will.”

Don’t change it Mick other than Jarvo coming back, and Kites playing from the start. We are a very weakened side without the two wide men!!
I would try Vokes from the start he wins plenty of headers but tend NOT to give away free kicks in the process!

It seems the only person who knows where the goal is in the team is SEB. We should be scoring from the wings and midfield as well, but it just is not happening. This is not good news!!! How long can we get away with what’s happening!?

Keogh is a good player, but doesn’t seem to have a clue where the goal is!

We just have to keep supporting the team and hope they will come good!

Unfortunately I don’t think Jarvis will figure in the team come Saturday. I reckon MM thinks he is not working back enough, leaving Hill or Ward vulnerable for counter strikes. And he may be right.

But I prefer him on the pitch anyway. He is to vital to our ability to create chances, something we have not done enough when he has been absent.

8 – Jarvis will be in the team if fit. First half last night showed that without men to take on defenders wide and pull centre halves out of position we have little chance of scoring – especially at home. Kites made a big difference and Ward did OK, but will not take a man on, so does not cause the defence problems. Two wingers at home is a must.

Freind wasn’t injured anybody watching the warm up would have noticed him running round with Henry and having shots. A injured player wouldn’t be allowed to do that.

So How did he do O.K. then, are you as brain washed as MM when it comes to MM love child Ward.
We have many kids in the acadamy who are 20X better than the cart horse Ward, if given the same games and chances in any position available.

jarvo needs to come back he frightens the life out of defences he and kites are our best chances of creating goals with jones in the middle,i think henry will come back in as well because he,s the cover for when kites and jarvo get caught up field, and the defence now sorts itself out, foley.cradock, berra, hill, but the leftback could be anyone as mm keeps changing it,if we can get 7 points out the nxt 3 games i would be happy so bring it on,WE ARE WOLVES

Is that McCarthy talk for bringing back your love child Henry. For Christ’s sack leave him out, the midfield is a lot stronger without him.

Friend should be playing, he has proved on x3 occasions that he is better than Ward & Hill on the left. Mad Mick is worried the fans at home will see him do well making it difficult to bring back Ward.

Our poor form seems worse when we have Ward & Keogh playing.

Hennesey must be dropped before he costs us more points.

Berra is looking stronger each game.

Edwards has no end product and also must be dropped!

    Stich that happy clappers

20 year old Ireland U21 international, Stephen Gleeson, played for Wolves tonight in a young reserve team defeat to Crew. Alongside Qhashie.

6′.2″, an attacking, goalscoring midfielder –scoring on loan for Stockport in the League 1 semi-final play-offs and playing for them at Wembly for their promotion last season (his semi-final goal was their goal of the season).

Why not put him on the bench on Saturday instead of bringing Quashie back into the squad.

He’d be up for the final push for promoton and would easily deal with Charlton and most of the others we’ve still to play.

As MM says — to ‘freshen things up’ – so give this talented lad a go in the team. Be brave Mad Mick.

There is no justification for bring Henry back, he is a defensive midfielder…we havent conceded while he has been out. Jones and Edwards are far more mobile and Jones in particular is far more skillful.
Bring in Jarvis and leave the rest alone !

    18) drop edwards? errr nahh. Tuesdays performance was alright, just needed the SEB shot to have gone in instead of smacking the bar. Nearly could’ve suffered a sucker punch though with that Ipswich free kick, whole ground was in confusion, but the other results went our way again, they’re trying their best to let us win this league, bring on Charlton, hopefully they won’t play as defensive as Ipswich did and attack us, i’d stick with the same team on saturday apart from reid, jarvis back in and we’ll be fineeeee. Beware the wounded beast!?! Charlton are probably going to be one of the toughest tests around in the championship at the moment because of their circumstance. You will have to check but if Charlton loose are they pretty much down? I think an early goal should settle the nerves and damped the fragile confidence of Charlton.

    Up the Wolves!!

    18.) goody,

agree with you first point, friend deserves a start. and left back IS his position.

But keogh and ward must be on the bench as there players who do better when things are already goin well already.

Hennesey, ok drop him, and put who in ? really he is best we got at the mo, dispite his faults he’s still quality for his age.

Berra is looking stronger each game sure, his and craddocks partnership in the middle work great, stearman should have to wait for his chance.

Edwards sorry GOODY have to disagree here, he is key to having the midfield working well at the mo, him, jones, kites and jarvo is what we need now.

    care to reply ? lol

C’pn Wolves asks — S Gleeson 6’2″? I got my stats off Wikepedia — not always reliable I know — but, for some reason, Gleeson’s ben omitted from the team profiles on the official Wolves website — strange oversight — not in the senior squad or Academy list. Here’s what wiki said:

    Personal information
    Full name Stephen Gleeson
