Saville bombs on to Prizefighter
Saturday 7th March 2009, 8:30AM GMT.
Wolverhampton’s Steve Saville believes blunt force will propel him to glory when the Black Country is represented in ‘Prize Fighter’ for the first time.
‘The Wednesfield Bomber’ will be one of the eight participants in the Sky Sports televised tournament at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow on March 24.
Saville will compete in three rounds of three minutes in the first phase, and faces another two fights to get to the £25,ooo grand prize for the outright winner.
For the big punching 32-year-old, it completes a remarkable turnaround, after only returning to the ring nine months ago after a five-year absence.
He said: “Being an offensive fighter will help me in the tournament, I am sure of it. There are some very technical boxers involved, but I am training to put that much pressure on my opponent they will not be able to cope.
“This is another dream scenario for me, to have come this far in nine months and to have this shot at becoming Prizefighter – well, I would have taken that all day long.”
