Organisation the key for Saddlers boss

MANAGER 9 TS 20Organisation is the key to Walsall’s recent success, revealed boss Chris Hutchings.

The Saddlers recorded their third successive victory, after beating Yeovil 2-0 at the Banks’s Stadium on Saturday and are now unbeaten in five games.

Troy Deeney and Alex Nicholls gave the hosts a comfortable three points and Hutchings says establishing exact roles for his men is crucial.

He said: “We try to be organised and get the best out of each and every individual.

“Each individual knows their role in the team and what’s expected of them and on some days it won’t be good enough and on other days it will be.

“We never really felt comfortable but we are trying to work on clean sheets and that’s the third one in a row and we always feel we’ve always got a chance if we can keep it tight at the back.

“Winning breeds confidence and the atmosphere is very good, so long may that continue.

“We’re among the cluster of clubs who are trying to show a bit of consistency and we’re showing that at the moment.”

Deeney’s sixth goal in nine games and Nicholls’ sixth of the season gave the Saddlers a goal difference of plus one as they rose to 11th in League One – eight points behind the top six.

He said: “We feel we’ve got goals in us and it’s nice to be back on the plus side. That’s an important factor and could be vital if we keep on his run.

“I told them to just get on the end of anything going into the box. The pitch was a little bit bumpy and we didn’t want to try and play too much in midfield. We wanted to play in their half and cause their back four problems

“The second goal was a great one. Sofi got down the line and it was a fantastic ball in and Alex has come in at the back post and it was textbook as he headed it back across the goal. I thought we deserved it.

“In the first half we created some chances but never really tested their keeper but in the second half we ran out worthy winners.”

Nicholls’ header sealed the game and Hutchings was delighted with the 21-year-old, who is playing out wide rather than in his preferred role as a central striker.

He said: “He’s doing a job for the team and I’ve said to them as long as they’ve got a shirt it doesn’t matter where they are or where they play.

“He’s relishing the challenge and is working extremely hard for the team. We know he’s a good striker but we’ve always got that option if we want to put him down the middle.

“I was really pleased with Alex scoring, he worked extremely hard and I thought he played well.”
